Agricultural materials in price hike – an obstacle for farmers

Update: 22-11-2010 | 00:00:00

In the last months of the year, most of products are in price hike, including agricultural materials and fertilizer. At present, cultivation has entered main crops, so farmers have faced many difficulties.

An increasing burden

In the face of price hike of fertilizer, farmers’ production has encountered more obstacles. Mr.Nam, a vegetable grower at Phuoc Vinh township of Phu Giao district, said “On the same area of growing vegetables, my investment expense in this year is higher than last year. While Tet is approaching, price of fertilizer is sky-rocketing. This increases more burdens for farmers”.

Price hike of agricultural materials surges burden for farmers.

Most of agricultural materials have been in price hike, especially fertilizer. In Phu Giao district, the two kinds of fertilizer including DAP and Urea have showed a great fluctuation of prices with an increase from VND650,000 to VND670,000 per bag.

Phung Van Thuc, the owner of general farm at Phu Giao’s Tam Lap commune, said “farmers have faced many difficulties, owing to price hike of agricultural materials. This makes farmers decrease their investments in cultivation”.

A stability needed

Even, agricultural material shops have been also in difficulty. An owner of agricultural material shop in Ben Cat district, said “price hike of agricultural materials make sellers not dare to import products”.

At present, farming and animal husbandry have been in main crops. With a poor investment, the quality of farming and animal husbandry will surely decrease along. As for farmers borrowing loans from banks, their burden is bigger and bigger.

Thuc said that farmers are in dire need of interference from the State for stabilizing prices to ease farmers’ burdens. In the current period, many farmers said that before enjoying interference from functional agencies, farmers should save themselves by investing and using fertilizer properly.
