Giving care to the elderly

Tran Quang Bao, vice-chairman of provincial Association of the Elderly said that over the past time, the province has always paid attention to taking care of the spiritual and material lives of the local elderly people.

Since early this year, provincial Association of the Elderly and its affiliates have teamed up with hospitals in and out of the province to provide free medical check-ups and medicine for 3,500 elderly people. Thuan An and Di An towns have also mobilized donors to fund eye surgeries for 12 elderly people with a total expense of VND24mln.

Provincial Association of the Elderly and its affiliates have also taken good care of the spiritual life of the local elderly people through cultural activities, helping them have a chance to meet and share living experience with young people…

Last year, the province visited and presented gifts worth VND3.45bln for 9,561 elderly people.

Upholding the role of the elderly

Provincial Association of the Elderly now has 563 branches and 2,317 groups with 59,172 members or 86.8% of the total number of the province’s total elderly people.

According to statistics, 12,056 elderly people are now the owners of farmsteads, production facilities, restaurants, hotels, transport services…, contributing to generating jobs for more than 4,000 laborers.

Provincial Association of the Elderly has so far mobilized a fund of more than VND6bln to offer help to the local elderly people in economic development. In 2011 alone, the association provided more than VND3.7bln for nearly 2,000 elderly people to develop home based business.

Provincial Association of the Elderly and its affiliates have also launched the emulation movement of “Tuoi cao-Guong sang” among the local elderly people. With their experience and prestige, the local elderly people have actively contributed to maintaining order and security…
