Breeding pheasants brings great profit

Update: 15-10-2013 | 00:00:00

Realizing that pheasant is one of animals of worth, Pham Thanh Hung, 33, in Hoa Loi comune’s Phu Nghi hamlet in Ben Cat district always has an aspiration of opening a farmstead on breeding this kind of bird. His aspiration came true when he was provided an address supplying breeding pheasants in early 2013. After many days for research, he decided to buy 200 pheasants to develop this animal husbandry model.

“Profit is 4 times higher than capital”…

According to Hung, pheasants look very nice. It is also easy to breed this kind of bird with high economic efficiency. Accordingly, a 20-day-old pheasant is priced between VND100,000-VND200,000. It is sold at between VND400,000 and VND450,000 after three-month breeding.

Dang Thi Loan, Hung’s wife said: “Regardless of all costs, a pheasant brings breeders from VND200,000 to VND250,000 in profit”. According to her calculations, her family will secure between VND40mln and VND50mln from the above 200 pheasants after three-month breeding.

Also according to her, breeders do not spend much time on breeding pheasants. It only takes 30 minutes to tend this kind of bird every day. Feed for pheasants is also very simple. They can eat mash for poultry, spinach, bean sprouts, corn…This kind of birth has a good resistance, so they only needs to be vaccinated two times. “….I feel very secure when breeding pheasants because they are always healthy in all weather conditions”, said Hung.

For agricultural sector, consumption market is always an important thing. Farmers in many provinces and cities faced difficulties when consuming their products over the past time. But,  Hung said: “Currently, my family has some stable purchasing places in the province and HCM city. My farmstead’s products are ensured by the owner of a farmstead supplying breeding pheasants, so I’m not afraid of consumption market”.

Small farmstead, great thought

Hung’s family now breeds 200 pheasants, including nearly 50 breeding ones. If his breeding pheasants reach stable growth, the number of pheasants in his farmstead will increase to 500 or 600 in the next year. Hung and his wife expects to build additional 6 breeding facilities to expand this animal husbandry model.

With the current reasonable price of VND280,000 or VND300,000 a kg of pheasant meat, enjoying pheasant meat is not too luxurious for eaters. Realizing this, Hung aims at setting up a specialized area for breeding this kind of bird in Hoa Loi commune to supply a source of nutritional and delicious food for market in and out of the province. Under the plan, he is mobilizing and guiding the local farmers how to breed and tend this kind of bird with high economic efficiency…

Nguyen Thi Thuy, Vice-Chairwoman of Hoa Loi communal People’s Committee said that Hoa Loi commune has regularly opened training courses on animal husbandry for the local farmers. Many farmers have also paid attention to breeding pheasants. With new production ways, logical training plus the attention and support of the local government, it is hoped that many households in Hoa Loi commune will develop more effective models.
