Di An town’s Volunteers Club, a “seed” of social charity movements

Upholding the spirit of “Mutual love and mutual affection”, the Volunteers Club under Di An town’s Red Cross Society have actively got involved in social charity activities. The club and its individuals have become outstanding examples in studying and following late President Ho Chi Minh’s exemplary morals.

Club of compassion

Since its inception, the Volunteers Club under Di An town’s Red Cross Society has offered help to hundreds of needy people.

As a result, many families across the town have so far risen up out of poverty and stabilized their lives. The family of Do Thanh Tan and Hoang Thi Ly in Di An town is a typical example for this.

The club has also maintained a model of providing free meals for poor patients at Di An town’s General Hospital with the average figure of 80 meals a month.

Over the past years, hundreds of humanitarian addresses in and out of the province like Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Dac Nong, Binh Dinh, Nghe An…received more help from the club via many forms, including presenting wheelchairs, funding construction of houses, schools…

In 2013, the club built 5 red cross houses with a total value of more than VND230mln; visited and presented gifts to people with difficult circumstances, supported natural disaster-hit cases in and out of the province…with a total expense of nearly VND2bln; provided 6,360 free meals for poor patients at Di An town’s General Hospital…

And the heart of volunteers

Nguyen Thi Thuan, 60, a member of the Volunteers Club under Di An town’s Red Cross Society is known by residents in Dong Hoa ward’s Tan Hoa quarter in Di An town.

It is known that she was a teacher. After retiring, she has begun taking part in activities of the club. She has actively called for organizations and individuals to offer help to the poor.

Or, despite difficulties, Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang residing in Dong Hoa ward’s Tay B quarter over the past time came to each quarter to know about the situation of needy people for timely help. On Tet and great holidays, she and members of the club actively mobilized money and gifts from donors and enterprises to help poor people and policy beneficiary families. According to her, patience is very necessary in the task of mobilizing organizations, individuals to offer help to the poor.

According to Tu Anh Tuan, Chairman of Di An town’s Red Cross Association, the club is a “seed” of the local social charity movements. Upon the spirit of “the good leaves protect the worn-out leaves”, the club over the past time offered help to humanitarian addresses, especially on Tet and great holidays. During the 2011-2013 period, the club was honored as an outstanding collective in studying and following Uncle Ho by the People’s Committee of Di An town.
