Efficiency from Dau Tieng district’s new rural construction program

Speeding up the implementation of the new rural construction program in Dau Tieng district has contributed to promoting the local socio-economic development. So far, there have been 11 communes meeting 12 criteria of the program and above. Among them, 4 have basically fulfilled all 19 criteria of the program. They are Thanh An, Long Tan, Dinh Thanh and Dinh Hiep.

High economic growth rate

After four-year implementation of the new rural construction program, Dau Tieng district saw an annual economic growth of 10%-11% with the proportion of industry-services in the local economic structure on rise. As of late 2014, the proportion of agriculture accounted for 36.29% of the local economic structure; trade-services, 33.3% and industry-construction, 30.41%.

As one of localities under provincial plan on carrying out the National Target Program on New Rural Construction in the period of 2011 and 2015, Long Tan commune has made efforts in the implementation of the program. To date, the commune has fulfilled all 19 criteria of the program. There are now 64 roads with total length of 67.2 km covered by asphalt or 100% of the projection. The average income per capita herein in 2014 was VND35.5mln, up VND2mln compared to that of 2013. There are also 100% of the local households in use of power and clean water.

The birth of Long Tan dairy cow cooperative has contributed to promoting the local animal husbandry sector. Currently, the cooperative has a total of 50 members and more than 600 dairy cows.

Nguyen Van Khuong, Head of Long Tan dairy cow cooperative said that thanks to changing to the animal husbandry model, his family’s economic efficiency has been improved considerably with the monthly income of more than VND30mln. He is expanding his breeding facility and grass-planting area. It is expected that his family’s number of dairy cows will be lifted to 45 in the near future.

Nguyen Xuan Thuan, a resident in Long Tan commune said that the local people have actively responded to the program. They have also enjoyed benefits from infrastructure facilities built from the program. Thanks to vocational training courses, they have taken stable jobs, improving their lives.

Great investment in traffic system

One of Dau Tieng district’s considerable results over the past time was the movement of making rural roads and urban rejuvenation. Particularly, the district built and upgraded 45 kilometers of asphalt-covered road, 120 kilometers of gravel path and 17kilometers of in-field road. There were also 229 kilometers of inter-communal road covered by asphalt under standards of the new rural construction program.

The district also paid attention to upgrading and dredging streams and canals, namely Xuy No, Con Muong, Lon, Son Dai, Da Yeu…Thanks to being regularly maintained, Can Nom reservoir and Ben Trong pumping station in Thanh An commune are well upholding their effects in supplying irrigation water for the local people’s agricultural production.

Under the program, the district attached special importance to vocational training, environmental hygiene, agricultural promotion…Dau Tieng Rubber One-Member Co.Ltd. organized classes on how to grow and tend rubber trees for nearly 2,600 laborers and created jobs for them. The People’s Committee of the district also gave vocational training for more than 1,300 laborers, thereby contributing to generating jobs for most local rural youngsters and demobees.

According to Nguyen Phuong Linh, Vice-Chairman of Dau Tieng district’s People’s Committee, the district has set a target of having additional 6 communes satisfying all 19 criteria of the program, bringing total number of such communes to 10. The People’s Committees of communes in the district also need to speed up propaganda work among locals, raising their awareness of the new rural construction program…
