Efficiency from “Intergenerational self-help” club

Joining the “Intergenerational self-help” club, members will have a chance to take part in “Taichi” programs and enjoy periodic medical check-ups. They will be provided loans for economic development…With such practical activities; the club is being replicated across the province.

Loan support

Provincial People’s Committee has approved a Project on “Widely multiplying intergenegational self-help club for the period of 2017-2020”. So far, the whole province has set up 13 clubs with nearly 400 members in TDM city, Di An town, Thuan An town, Tan Uyen town and Dau Tieng district. With many significant activities, the club has contributed to taking care of the elderly, especially those with difficult circumstances.

Di An town is a locality with the most “intergenegational self-help” clubs. The town now has a total of such 9 clubs. Noticeably, the club of Tay An quarter in Dong Hoa ward comprises of 100 members with a total fund of VND100million. Members of the club with loan support have till now upheld their role in economic development, raising their quality of life.

Or, the “intergenerational self-help” club of An Lap commune in Dau Tieng district has mobilized more than VND40million from members. The fund is for members with difficult circumstances to develop production models. Vo Kim Lien, Chairwoman of Dau Tieng district’s Association of the Elderly said that when joining the club, the local elderly are got loans for economic development, helping them rise up out of poverty. Activities of the club have significantly contributed to raising the local officials and members, people’s awareness of rights of the elderly. The local elderly feel very satisfied with the model, so it needs to be replicated across the province.

Taking care of members’ spirit life

Along with economic development support, the “intergenerational self-help” clubs have well upheld their role in taking care of health of the elderly. They have also organized art-cultural exchanges, “Taichi” programs and tours to tourist sites for the local elderly, thereby contributing to enhancing their spiritual life…

Tran Tan Thanh, Chairman of Thuan An town’s Association of the Elderly said that the town has so far established 2 “intergenerational self-help” clubs. Possibly speaking, the model has contributed to improving the spiritual and material lives of the local elderly. Coming to these clubs, they have a chance to take part in useful activities, helping them get a happy and healthy life. They have also called for organizations and individuals to offer gifts to extremely difficult circumstances and people hit by natural disasters in the central region.

Tran Quang Bao, Vice-Chairman of provincial Association of the Elderly said that the association will coordinate with sectors, departments and localities to implement the Project on “Widely multiplying intergenegational self-help club for the period of 2017-2020”, aiming to improve the quality of the life of the local elderly.

Dang Minh Hung, Vice-Chairman of provincial People’s Committee said that the project has contributed to realizing the local targets in the National Action Program on Elderly people, thereby taking care of them, especially those with difficult circumstances. The project has also strengthened the participation of sectors, authorities at all levels and social organizations in caring the elderly and upholding their role in the context of population ageing…
