The success of the 13th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Council elections at all levels for the 2011-2016 term depends on voters’ sound decision and election council’s efforts.
With this most important political events of the country drawing near, the entire political system and people are actively engaging in preparation work to ensure the success of the 13th NA election.
All localities have completed their third consultation round with the participation of people from all walks of life. The list of 832 prospective candidates, including 182 nominated at the central level and 650 at the provincial level, has been carefully checked and made public.
So far, there have been no complaints about any of these candidates.
Of the 182 candidates selected from the central agencies, 179 got overwhelming vote in favour at their residential quarters while the rest polled 90 percent of the vote.
As Vietnam focused on promoting democracy, self-nomination has become more and more popular, like a vote of confidence in the role and status of the NA in the political system.
However, there are still concerns over the success of self-nominated candidates. Only a few of them successfully polled in previous elections as most voters followed the nomination guidelines of organizations and agencies.
According to law, both nominated and self-nominated candidates enjoy an equal opportunity in the nomination process.
One of the main objectives of the 13th NA election is increasing the number of full-time deputies to 33 percent against 29.41 percent in the 12th NA with a view to improving the effectiveness of the NA operation.
The success of the election depends on voters’ decision, with a full sense of civil responsibility towards the country.
