"Green House" spreads love...

As understanding the importance of environmental protection, many localities in the province have implemented effective programs. Moreover, programs such as "Green House", "Collecting waste to raise compassionate funds" are not simply an initiative to build a green - clean - beautiful urban landscape but also have profound humane meanings, demonstrate the solidarity spirit in the community.

The "Green House" program in An Lap commune, in addition to protecting the environment, also raises funds to support women and children having particularly difficult circumstances.

Positive impact

For more than a year, every time she collects plastic bottles, waste paper, and cans, Nguyen Thi Kim Chi, a resident of Kien An hamlet (An Lap commune, Dau Tieng district), brings it to the "Green House" program located at the hamlet’s office. Ms. Chi said: “Every 2-3 days I bring the collected waste to the green house. Many people saw me doing this and did the same."

Not only Ms. Chi, in Kien An hamlet, the waste collection movement to support "Green House" program was enthusiastically responded by many people. Pham Thanh Hung, Head of Kien An hamlet, said: "The hamlet has 310 households. Thanks to propaganda, not only permanent residents but also lodging families staying in the area have gradually formed the habit of classifying waste. People voluntarily bring waste such as waste paper, bottles, and beer cans to the "Green House". This program is truly meaningful and effective, helps to raise awareness of environmental protection in the community and reduce waste into the environment."

"Green House" program has been implemented by Women's Union of An Lap commune since 2023 and has now been replicated in five hamlets: Kien An, Ho Can, Bau Khai, Phu Binh, Chot Dong. With five "Green Houses", the program has attracted more than 300 members. Nguyen Thi Thuy Duyen, member of Women's Union of Kien An hamlet, said: “Many households know about this program through announcements of Women's Union, hamlet Executive Board and loudspeakers. In addition to raising awareness of waste classification, members and households are well aware of their responsibility to protect the environment."

According to Nguyen Thi Ngoc Duyen, Chairwoman of Women's Union of An Lap commune, every day all kinds of waste after use are still thrown indiscriminately, which is wasteful and badly affects the environment. The "Green House" with the aim of collecting recyclable waste, waste, cans and plastic materials to raise members and people’s awareness of environmental protection as well as actively participate in new rural construction. Since then, all officials, members and people of all walks of life have changed their way of thinking, perceiving and acted correctly, transformed their behavior to improve living conditions and participate in environmental sanitation movements. The highly effective model will continue to be deployed in the remaining two hamlets: Dat Do hamlet and Hang Nu hamlet.

Thanks to the introduction of Women's Union of An Lap commune, Le Thi Hiep (Hang Nu hamlet) became an "acquaintance" of "Green House". Ms. Hiep is a worker, her husband died of cancer, leaving behind her and two school-aged children. With a small salary of 5 million VND/month, it is not enough for Ms. Hiep to make a living. Knowing about the special circumstances of Ms. Hiep, Women's Union of her commune regularly visits and gives gifts supported by "Green House" program and generous persons.

Collecting waste and classifying garbage attract the participation of many residents in An Lap commune.

“The huge incident happened made me confused and worried because my income was so little that it was difficult to ensure my children continue to go to school. The Commune Women's Union regularly encourages and supports my children with school bags and school fees. The commune supports 500,000 VND per month for a child until 18 years old. This is a great encouragement that makes me very grateful and more assured about my children’s future. Therefore, every time I have used cans, plastic bottles, or paper boxes, I collect them and bring to the "Green House". I hope that many women and children will receive support like us", said Ms. Hiep.

The meaning of "Green House" implemented by Women's Union of An Lap commune is not only to help women members raise awareness of environmental protection but also to "accumulate a small amount to make a big difference" to help the disadvantaged. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Duyen said that the "Green House" model received active participation from members. On average, waste from 5 "Green Houses" is sells for about 1 million VND/month. The amount of money is publicized, and at the end of the year, it will be given to women members and children having difficult circumstances.

The widespread effect of this program is not only among women members, many households who learned about this through the announcement also unanimously responded. Do Thi Xuan, a resident of Kien An hamlet, said: “Understanding the meaning of this program, I support it even more. This brings many benefits to the community and needs to be replicated to build a civilized humane society."

Not only the "Green House", in recent times there have been some programs with profound humanity, such as: "Exchanging waste for gifts" and "Collecting waste to raise charity funds" have been implemented in many localities in the province. These activities have created a positive effect in raising people's awareness of waste classification and recycling, bringing practical benefits to the environment. Moreover, the money collected from these models has supported many difficult situations, helping them improve their lives.
