Local leader receives the US consul general

The US Consul General Le Thanh An yesterday paid a courtesy meeting with local leaders and visited to some local businesses on his new assignment in HCMC. The provincial Party Committee Secretary Mai The Trung briefed the guest on local socio-economic development and hoping that the US businesses will keep investing in the province. The province has lured more than 76 US businesses with the total investment capital of about US$400mil, he added.

The US Consul General Le Thanh An, said in his term he will boost US trade and investment in Vietnam, modernize and improve Vietnam’s competitive capacity in educational field and charitable activities. Le Thanh An, 56, was born in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, has lived in the US since 1965 and been the first Vietnamese American to be appointed as US Consul General in HCM City. Before working at Vietnam, he used to work at China, Japan, Singapore, Korea, and France and so on.

Also the same day, the Consul-General of Canada in HCM - Mr Audri Mukhopadhyay paid a visit to Thu Dau Mot University’s directorate. According to Mr. Audri Mukhopadhyay, Canada is one of the world’s leading educators and interested in Vietnam’s education and training, so it is likely to open cooperation and linkage between the tow nations.

Ph.D Nguyen Van Hiep, the university headmaster lauded Mr Audri Mukhopadhyay’s working visit and hoping that there will be many projects of training and student exchange.
