New day for Phuoc Hoa Irrigation work

A national stature

Phuoc Hoa irrigation project, invested by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, was built from March, 2008 to Dec. 10, 2011. The first phase of the project was inaugurated on Dec. 10. Operation of the project has satisfied aspiration of residents living in 5 provinces of Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Long An, Tay Ninh and HCMC. The project aims to solve the shortage of water for residents, industrial parks and cultivated land in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces.

Specifically, the project will supply a 1.3 million cu.m of water each day to Binh Duong, 432,000 cu.m to Binh Phuoc, 350,000 cu.m to Long An, 300,000 cu.m to Tay Ninh and 900,000 cu.m to Ho Chi Minh City.

The project is divided into two phases with a total investment of 329.5 million USD funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), French Agency for Development (AFD), the government and contribution of farmers from concerned localities.

A new day starting

After 3 years of construction, despite complication of construction procedures and regulations of sponsors, abnormal weather, units completed the entire 1st phase of the project.

On Dec. 10, the 1st phase of the project was opened with fresh water current flowing from Be River to Dau Tieng reservoir, serving for socio-economic goals and contributing to development of the related provinces.

At present, the second phase has been launched to supply water to Duc Hoa industrial park, Tay Ninh province’s Tan Bien and Long An province’s Duc Hoa.
