For a warm Tet

Realizing the importance of social support for social welfare work, TDM city has step by step improved the quality of social support activities for unfortunate people. This has helped raise their spiritual and material lives, created the chance for them to better get access to social services and upheld their self-reliance and integration into the community.

In 2014, the city’s People’s Committee decided to provide 668 social beneficiaries with monthly allowances; adjusted subsidies for 496 disabled people; gave sudden support for 8 needy cases. The city’s Division of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA) also coordinated with Saigon General Hospital to provide free eye check-up for 88 people and cataract surgery for 21 others with a total expense of VND165mln; joined hands with the city’s Sponsoring Association for Disabled People, Orphans and Poor Patients to provide free medical check-up, medicine and gifts for 200 disable people, orphans and poor patients in wards of Phu Hoa, Phu My, Hiep An and Phu Cuong.

The plan on mobilization of the “Bright eyes for the elderly” program was also implemented. As a result, VND116mln was raised to the program. Around 400 elderly people enjoyed eye examination from the program. It is expected that the program will provide free cataract surgery for 101 elderly people.

Nguyen Duong, Head of the city’s DoLISA said that the city’s DoLISA has always taken initiative in realizing policies for social beneficiaries. The city’s DoLISA has also guided wards of the city to grasp the lives of social beneficiaries to map out timely and suitable support plans.

So far, the city’s DoLISA has made a plan to visit and present Tet gifts to 9,778 policy beneficiaries, 6,035 social beneficiaries and 1,914 poor and near-poor households, 2,700 workers who are not able to return home for Tet. The city’s Association of the Blind now also mobilizes businesses to give Tet gifts for members. Do Van Cau, Chairman of the city’s Association of the Blind said that this would be a motivation for the blind to rise up.

Thanks to the attention and help of the society, many needy people have made efforts to overcome difficulties and rise up in life. This is seen as a great success in the cause of ensuring the city’s social welfare.
