In the first working day of the 8th session of the 8th tenure People’s Council on July 30, the delegates listened to statements and reports of: socio-economic status of the province in the first 6 months and major measures for the last 6 months of 2013; inspection reports on general planning for socio-economic inh Binh Duong Province until 2020 adding up to 2025; reports on collection of voters’ opinions, etc.The economy on recovery momentumUnder the report of socio-economic status of the province in the first 6 months and major measures for the last 6 months of 2013 presented by Deputy Chair of Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Huynh Van Nhi, the provincial economy saw positive advance in GDP growth of 9.5% (industrial-constructional sector 6.6%, services 14.5%, and agriculture 1.3%). Industrial production value reached VND 63,901 billion or 11.9% higher than previous term. Total retail and services earned revenue of VND 38,579 billion or 18.7% higher than previous term. Exporting revenue reached USD 5.993 billion or 16.3% higher than previous term. General State’s budget collection earned VND 14,182 billion or 50% of estimation of Ministry of Finance and 49% of estimation of Provincial People’s Council. Foreign investment luring earned USD 925 million. Overview of the 8th session of the 8th tenure People’s Council The report pointed out limitations and drawbacks including improved but challenging economy, recovered but slow recovering production and business operations, etc.On the basis of the report, Provincial People’s Committee proposed measures to successfully gain the targets in the last 6 month of 2013 in a bid of completing socio-economic objectives in 2013 under resolution of Provincial People’s Council.Accordingly, the province shall continue with removing obstacles to the market, resolve bad debts to promote production and business operations, with meeting enterprise representatives in dialogues and workshop to timely help investor, with boosting inspection of banking operations. Besides, social housing and commercial apartment projects should be reviewed to promote real estates while enterprises and buyers should be supported. Price stablizing programs should be promoted especially against necessities. Social security and creation of forces shoud be mobilized to take care of socially privileged and poor people.Voters’ opinions on agendaPut on the agenda was opinions of voters concerning insustainable development, dropping Provincial Competition Index (PCI), food safety concerns, complex occurrence of diseases and traffic accidents, environment pollution, etc.On the other hand, the report of opinion and suggestion collection from voters presented by Chair of Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Mr. Pham Van Canh stated the concerned matters including not very good investment to medical facilities and healthcaring staffs in some localities, slow traffic construction, inharmonious construction of drainage, off schedule planning, wastefulness, floods in some site of Saigon River, healthcaring problems at Provincial Hospital, extra classes of secondary schools, etc.By Political Reporters – Translated by Vi Bao
