Phu Chanh commune in Tan Uyen district is changing. This is also a flexible evidence about the soundness in the renewal policies of Binh Duong province.

Change of a poor commune

Previously, Phu Chanh was one of Tan Uyen district’s poor communes with 100% of households earning their living by farm doing.

The whole commune has around 504 hectares of farm land, but now agricultural production is not the main income for the local people. Currently, there are only 30% of households living on agricultural production.

Nguyen Van Tru, chairman of Phu Chanh communal People’s Committee said that the birth of Binh Duong New City has contributed to changing this agricultural land.

Phu Chanh commune has actually changed when the Vietnam-Singapore 2 Industrial Park was officially put into operation with tens of thousands of workers. Lodging service and other many services have also loomed large across the commune at workers’ daily demands.

The commune is now home to 300 trade-service establishments, contributing to promoting the local socio-economic growth.

New rural area

So far, Phu Chanh commune has achieved 7 out of 19 criteria on rural new construction. The average income per capita of the local people is VND25mln per year, higher than the common level of the province.

Phu Chanh commune now has too many advantages to develop into a city in the near future. The commune is receiving more investment in basic construction for the perfection of infrastructure.

The Phu Chanh 1 industrial compound project of 138 hectares is also going to be built and put into operation, bringing joys to the local people. So far, there have been 7 woodwork companies registering to make investment in the industrial compound.

Binh Duong Tuberculosis and Metal Hospital will be also built on a 8.1-ha area in Phu Chanh commune. The birth of the hospital will promote the development of some relevant services, contributing to increasing the income of the local people…

Phu Chanh makes efforts in poverty reduction

Last year, Phu Chanh commune in Tan Uyen district effectively took measures in hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

The commune mobilized and donated Tet gifts worth VND46.3mln to all 93 poor households; considered and funded the construction of 3 unity houses for the poor; granted 454 health insurance cards to poor households and near-poor ones; built 2 charity houses worth VND41mln to the poor; cooperated with the district’s Bank for Social Policy to disburse VND747mln in loan for poor and near-poor households…

As a result, the whole commune had 58 households free from poverty last year. There were also only 14 poor households as of late May 2012, said Nguyen Van Tru, chairman of the communal People’s Committee.
