President Sang begins Laos visit

President Truong Tan Sang, accompanied his wife and a high-ranking delegation, began a three-day official visit to Laos on March 23.

The visit is made at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and State President Chummaly Sayaone.

The President’s encourage includes Deputy Minister of Investment and Planning Nguyen Chi Dung, Deputy Foreign Affairs Dang Minh Khoi and Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Viet Tan.

Vietnam and Laos established diplomatic ties in 1962 and signed the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty in 1977.

Trade between the two countries reached US$1.58 billion in 2014, a 34.5% annual increase. The two nations have set to lift this to US$2 billion by late this year.

Vietnam has poured over US$5 billion in Laos, becoming one of the largest investors in the country.
