Efforts are being implemented to stabilize prices and ensure necessity supply to service Tet 2018.

Resourceful supply

An unnamed representative of Department of Industry and Trade said that preparation for supplying goods for the Lunar New Year 2018 began in November, focusing on essential items. On the basis of the people's demands for essential goods, the department has coordinated with other branches, levels, and enterprises to produce, trade and retail in the area to bring goods to the market on Lunar New Year 2018 with total value estimated at nearly VND 759 billion, to be supplied in the two months before and after the Lunar New Year (increased by 25% higher than the storing plan in 2017).

The products focus on 5 categories of essential goods, including food (rice, sticky rice), fresh food (pork, beef, poultry, fish, eggs, vegetables, and fruits), processed foods (sugar, milk, cooking oil, monosodium glutamate, beer, soft drinks etc.), petrol and medicines for human use (domestically produced drugs). The enterprises also prepared the supply of ordinary goods by more than 40% of the provincial target. For the upcoming Tet, along with price stabilization, there will be many promotions discounted by businesses to support consumers.

According to information from the major consumer goods distributors in the province, up to today, the wholesale enterprises have finished negotiations with suppliers to plan goods for the supplying system. The supermarket is full of quality-assured goods and required reserving time in the province. In particular, Big C supermarkets prepare the goods with the highest proportion, up to nearly VND 312 billion, MM Mega Market nearly VND 180 billion, CoopMart Binh Duong I over VND 106 billion among others. Other units such as Binh Duong Tourism Trading Joint Stock Company have prepared beer and fresh water worth VND 58.5 billion, Vissan nearly VND 1.5 billion to supply pork, beef, chicken, and foods in the system of supermarkets and stores of product introduction.

Thanh Le Trading - Import - Export Company Limited is committed to ensure sufficient supply of petroleum for dealers and retailers of the company so that no shortage of goods in the area would be incurred during Tet holidays. As for Lotte, Vinmart, and Pham Ton Co., Ltd, plans and commitments are offered to increase goods and means of transport to be ready for transportation as Tet comes.

Stabilized prices

In 2017, the complicated situation of floods and storms in many places throughout the country along other factors have had a certain impacts on commodity prices. Thus, the pressure of rising input prices making commodity prices rise during Tet this year is very high, especially for foods due to increased demands while the conditions of livestock and the weather have been unfavorable. Therefore, keeping prices of Tet market is the target of managers and retail businesses by participating in stabilizing market prices.

Tran Thi Hong Quyen, Deputy Director of CoopMart Binh Duong chain, said that from August, the Saigon Co-operative Federation (Saigon Coop), the managing company of CoopMart Binh Duong, has worked with suppliers and farmers in the local areas to negotiate the prices and the purchase of raw materials to actively source and control input prices. All its units have to release large sums of money to stockpile commodities for stabilization, as any increase in prices from Coop Mart will be responsible for the price increase. Without adjusting the price for essential commodities as registered with Binh Duong Department of Industry and Trade. Especially for the program of Vietnamese goods to rural areas, Coop Mart will continue to bring Tet merchandise with stable prices on sale at Ben Cat Town, Tan Uyen Town, and Bau Bang District. The implementation period is expected to last from late November to late December of the lunar year to serve at the end of the year.

Similarly, representatives of other supermarkets said that they had planned to source goods and stabilize Tet market. Although the price of goods imported at this time tends to increase but it took no affect on lives of people.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, determining that stockpiling as one of the key tasks of stabilizing the market, the department has actively coordinated with local units, localities, enterprises and retailers to deploy and stockpile commodities to stabilize the market of the Lunar New Year 2018 on the principle that enterprises engaged in stabilization must commit to essential commodities without sudden price hikes and allow only increase/decrease with a 5% fluctuation range (by written notice). In addition, the unit will promote the program of mobile sales associated with the happy market of the program to bring Vietnamese goods to the countryside.
