Over VND45billion for social charity activities was an impressive figure in 2019. Of the total figure, more than VND7.6billion was mobilized from provincial Buddhist Sangha’s Charity Board. At a recent meeting reviewing activities of provincial Buddhist Sangha in 2019 and defining orientations for 2020, Tran Duc Thinh, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Home Affairs, Head of provincial Commission for Religious Affairs also spoke highly of the task. Buddhist nun Thich nu An Lien, Head of provincial Buddhist Sangha’s Charity Board cum Head of Phat Hoc pagoda in TDM city said that last year, provincial Buddhist Sangha continued well realizing social welfare. The local Buddhist community contributed tens of billions of dong to many charity programs such as those of constructing charity houses, helping people upgrade their houses hit by natural disasters, offering gifts to needy people in and out of the province…

According to the Buddhist nun, one of practical programs by provincial Buddhist Sangha is to build bridges in the Mekong Delta provinces. The significant program has been implemented since 2016. Some Buddhist followers, namely Tran Thi Thuy Hiep, Truong Thi Sang, Nguyen Thi Tam…, have made contributions to the program.

Provincial Buddhist Sangha’s Charity Board also coordinated with provincial Red Cross Society, Fatherland Front Committee to visit and present gifts to poor people in the northern, central and Mekong Delta provinces. Over the past time, provincial Buddhist Sangha was one of leading units in social charity activities. Especially, two relief trips in 2 neighboring countries Laos and Cambodia also contributed to helping form a fine image about the Buddhist community of Binh Duong. Along with this, the local Buddhist community teamed up with many charity groups to offer wheelchairs to handicapped people, build charity houses, maintain heroic Vietnamese mothers, provide free meals for poor patients at provincial General Hospital, Traditional Medicine Hospital…

Most Venerable Thich Hue Thong, Deputy Secretary General of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of provincial Buddhist Sangha also said that provincial Buddhist Sangha will donate 17,000 Tet gifts worth nearly VND6billion to poor people under the “Tet for the poor” program 2020, aiming to bringing Tet to all people.

It is known that provincial Buddhist Sangha has so far mobilized organizations and individuals to build 65 bridges in the Mekong Delta provinces, upgrade 14 charity houses…
