Provincial planning for inland waterway system approved

On April 12, Tran Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman of provincial People's Committee, presided over a meeting to approve the master plan on inland waterway system in Binh Duong province up to 2020 with a vision to 2030.

The planning for Binh Duong provincial system of inland waterway ports and wharves up to 2020 with a vision to 2030 was built on the basis of being close to and serving socio-economic development targets of the province. The system of inland waterway ports and wharves was developed in conformity with national strategies and plans and ensures the connection of land, inland waterways and sea routes; meeting the demand and contributing to reducing the pressure on road transport through the volume of goods and passengers in each period; promoting urban development in order to speed up the process of industrialization and modernization in the province.

The conference agreed to approve the detailed planning of cargo ports, cargo wharves, passenger wharves, specialized wharves and river crossings across the province. The planning was divided into 3 phases. In the period of 2017-2020, to build a system of ports and wharves to meet transport demands with a volume of over 1 million tons of cargo and more than 3 million passengers by 2020; In the period of 2021-2025, to build a system of ports and wharves to meet transport demands with a volume of more than 1.7 million tons of cargo and over 6 million passengers by 2025; In the period of 2026-2030, to complete the system of ports and wharves to meet transport demands with over 2.3 million tons of cargo and over 8 million passengers by 2030; To invest and build new inland water wharves to meet people needs.

Immediately, in 2017-2020, the province will prioritize investments in Tan Van port, Nguyen Ngoc port and An Tay port; upgrade cross-river passenger piers; upgrade cargo wharves in the areas where rivers have landslide.
