Regional connection generates a momentum for economic development

Under the Politburo’s Conclusion No.27-KL/TW dated August 2, 2012 on continuously fostering implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution No.53-NQ/TW dated August 29, 2005 on accelerating socio-economic development and defense-security maintenance in the South Eastern region and the Southern key economic zone towards 2020 (or briefly called the Politburo’s Resolution No.53), Binh Duong has reached a lot of important results on socio-economic development in the 2005 and 2015 period.

Comprehensive results

The Southern key economic zone in the 2005-2015 period has gained much progress on socio-economic development and national defense-security maintenance. Localities in the zone have also maintained economic growth, higher than the whole country’s average level.

During the period, Binh Duong’s process of restructuring economics and shifting growth models has achieved comprehensive results. The province’s annual GDP growth rate has gained 13.5%. Economic structure has step by step shifted towards the reduction of agricultural proportion and the growth of industrial and service proportion. Industrial production value in 2015 is estimated at more than VND216.6bln, 5.1 times higher than 2005. The whole province is now home to 29 industrial parks with more than 9,425 hectares and 8 industrial compounds with nearly 600 hectares in total…

Vo Van Cu, Director of provincial Department of Industry and Trade said that Binh Duong has focused on hi-quality services in association with spearheading services. Between 2005 and 2015, the province’s total retail value of commodities and services has obtained the annual growth of 29.4%.

Binh Duong has also promoted the local tourism development. Regarding agricultural production, Le Canh Dan, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the province has bent on developing urban and hi-tech agricultural models in association with processing industry to increase the added value of agricultural products and ensure the sector’s proportion in the local economic structure. The local agricultural sector has maintained the annual average growth of 4.7%.

Infrastructure development

So far, many key infrastructure works in Binh Duong have been basically fulfilled, contributing to promoting the local socio-economic development; simultaneously generated connection with the local socio-economic centers as well as traffic infrastructure in the Southern key economic zone.

Nguyen Thanh Truc, Director of provincial Department of Planning and Investment said that the province has diversified investment resources and methods for synchronous economic and infrastructure development while giving priority to national, regional and local traffic infrastructure connection.

The province has also paid attention to developing its power network at people’s production and  daily life. According to Binh Duong Power Company, total capacity of the local power stations is 2,179 MVA; there are now 99.97% of people in use of power.

In addition, irrigation works have been invested in a synchronous way, ensuring water supply for people’s daily life and production. The province has so far put 28 water plants into use with total capacity of 329,500 cubic meters a day and there are now 99% of city-dwellers in use of clean water. The province has also paid attention to water drainage projects, thereby step by step improving flooding in low-lying areas; simultaneously built a waste water treatment and collection system in Thu Dau Mot city and Thuan An town…

In terms of education-training, the province has attached special importance to investing in material facilities, equipment and improving teaching staff’s quality, basically meeting the local demand for learning and teaching. The whole province is now home to 516 schools, 65% of which have met national standards. Province-based universities, colleges and junior colleges have also reached a rapid increase in scale, meeting demand for human resource training in and out of the province.

For healthcare sector, the province is building provincial General Hospital with 1,500 beds and many other hospitals. There are now 5 provincial-level hospitals and 9 district-level health centers at the local people’s demand for medical treatment and examination.

In general, Binh Duong has seriously realized the Politburo’s Resolution No.53 and reached important results in socio-economic development, contributing to creating a momentum for it to soon become one of the centrally-controlled municipalities by 2020.
