Update: 05-12-2012 | 00:00:00

Thanks to the model of breeding dairy cows, the family of Nguyen Van Nieu, 75, in Ben Cat district’s Phu An commune has not only escaped poverty, but also risen up to get rich …

Nieu’s family now possesses 9 dairy cows, 2 of which are under exploitation. This animal husbandry model has helped his family rise out of poverty and get rich.

Giau said that his family went through a lot of hardships to reach the current success. He did many jobs to earn money to take care of his family with 9 members. Unfortunately, he was the victim of a mine explosion when hoeing land for his boss, causing his eyes grow dim.

But, thanks to the local authority’s loan for hunger eradication and poverty reduction, Nieu’s family escaped poverty and rose up for wealth from the animal husbandry model. After five years, his family possessed 4 mother cows. In 1994, he secured more than VND70mln from selling them and cleared his debt to the bank.

He added that in 2006, realizing that breeding dairy cows brought high economic efficiency, his family began getting involved in the animal husbandry model. Thanks to assistance from other breeders plus his own efforts, Nieu knew more techniques to effectively develop the animal husbandry model.

Currently, with 2 dairy cows under daily exploitation, his family collects 40 kg of fresh milk with the average selling price of VND7,000/kg. Thus, his family’s daily income is around VND300,000. The money is also enough to cover his family’s daily cost.

According to Nieu, cleanness is one of important conditions to effectively promote the model of breeding dairy cows. Not only breeding facilities, feed for dairy cows also requires cleanness and safety. Also thanks to clean breeding conditions plus sufficient vaccination, his dairy cow herd has always received compliment in terms of quality and quantity from dairy companies.

Vo Van Hoa, Chairman of Phu An communal People’s Committee said that the local Farmers’ Society has always made efforts to help farmers escape poverty and stabilize their lives. Poor people also need to catch opportunities, try their best  to rise out of poverty and stabilize their lives.
