Following the success of a self-management model on environmental protection in Binh Hoa ward’s Binh Dang quarter, Thuan An town’s Front Fatherland Committee (FFC) has continued promoting this model across the town, bringing practical effects.

From a typical model

Binh Dang quarter in Thuan An town’s Binh Hoa ward was selected as a pilot locality to realize a self-management model on environmental protection. Initially, the quarter’s Fatherland Front officials mobilized 50 households to get involved in the model while regularly making dissemination of information about environmental protection among all the local people. After one-year implementation, the model has so far received an enthusiastic response from the local people. The local people have so far installed 45 wastebaskets, planted green trees in front of their houses and contributed VND60mln to building pavements. Possibly speaking, the model has helped obviously raise public awareness of environmental protection.

From the effectiveness of the management model on environmental protection in Binh Dang quarter, Thuan An town’s FFC has instructed its branches to promote the model, selected 592 households for a survey on community awareness and actual state of the environment in accordance with a stipulated form. So far, the whole town has set up and maintained 75 self-management groups on environmental protection with more than 5,000 members in executive boards and more than 33,000 households registering for participation…

Coordination on environmental protection promoted

For environment protection effectively implemented among the local people, Thuan An town’s FFC and Division of Natural Resources and Environment (DoNRE) over the past time signed a cooperative agreement on implementation of the annual environmental protection plan.

Accordingly, the two sides have jointly held 6 training courses on environmental protection for more than 1,520 officials of FFCs at all levels, executive boards of self-management groups on environmental protection; organized 139 propaganda shows on the Law on Environmental Protection among the local people and monitored the local environmental protection work. It is estimated that there are more than 32,000 local households pledging to carry out environmental protection every year.

At the annual national great unity festivals, the town’s FFCs at all levels also organized to consider and select cultural households in association with a criterion on environmental protection for timely commendation over the past time. Thus, there was an annual increase on the number of households winning the title of “cultural household”.

The town’s FFC and DoNRE organized a competition on Fatherland Front with environmental protection, a competition on green, clean and beautiful streets…with the participation of many households. This contributed to creating an animated emulation impetus among the local residential quarters.

According to Nguyen Thi Thu Hong, Chairwoman of Thuan An town’s FFC, the local FFC will further maintain effective models and create more practical ones; promote law dissemination; regularly make environmental hygiene; launch an emulation movement on environmental protection in the process of industrialization and modernization in the coming time.
