Specialized squads to be set up during 2016 summer youth summer campaign

Summer is approaching. This is the time youth nationwide are eager to get involved in volunteer activities for the sake of the community. The Central Committee of the Youth Union has launched the 2016 summer youth summer campaign under the theme of “Youth joining hands in building new-style rural and civilized urban areas”. To know more about the campaign, Binh Duong Newspaper had an interview with Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, Secretary of provincial Youth Union.

-How has provincial Youth Union set up this year’s plan for the summer youth volunteer campaign?

This year’s summer youth volunteer campaign themed “Youth joining hands in building new-style rural and civilized urban areas” will take place from June 1 to August 31. And July is the peak month of the campaign.

Particularly, the Steering Board of the campaign will focus volunteer activities on communes with new-style rural construction, poor and remote ones of the province as well as areas crowded with young workers. Volunteer activities will be done in disadvantaged, mountainous, island and border areas outside the province. As planned, provincial Students Association will organize a volunteer program in Phu Quy island district in the central province of Binh Thuan in July. The Steering Board will also survey and outline volunteer programs in Laos, Cambodia, which are expected to be organized in August or September.

This year’s campaign will focus on six main contents: “Giving strength in exam season” program, “Green summer” campaign, “Green operation” campaign, “Red phoenix-flower” campaign, “Pink vacation” campaign and “International volunteer” campaign.

Some basic targets have also been put forward during the campaign. Particularly, 100% of district-level Youth Unions will join hands with armed forces to realize volunteer activities, including upgrading rural roads. 100% of Youth Unions in communes with new-style rural construction will take part in making youth works on new-style rural construction. Each Youth Union at district, town and city levels will set up at least one volunteer youth squad on traffic safety and build at least one civilized street. 100% of Youth Unions at commune, ward and township levels will establish youth volunteer squads; engage in civilized urban activities…

-What are the main contents of this year’s campaign?

There will be some typical activities in each content of the campaign. For example, the “Giving strength in exam season” program will focus on supporting rural and poor pupils in the 2016 university entrance exam season; the “Green operation” campaign with activities upgrading rural roads; the “Red phoenix-flower” campaign with “Paying debt of gratitude”, “When drinking water, remember its source” and social welfare activities; the “International volunteer” campaign with activities taking care of children and people with difficult circumstances in Laos and Cambodia.

Especially, the “Green summer” campaign and “Pink vacation” campaign will attach special importance to building new-style rural areas, civilized urban lifestyle and keeping traffic safety and order.

-What are the new features of this year’s campaign?

Along with traditional youth volunteer squads, the Steering Board of the campaign will set up two specialized ones. The first youth volunteer squad will open summer classes for children; organize activities to protect the environment, combat climate change; implement youth works on lighting up rural roads, creating useful playgrounds for children…in Phu Quy island district in the central province of Binh Thuan. Whilst, the second one will get involved in such volunteer activities as presenting youth works, organizing cultural exchange programs, providing medical check-ups and medicine for children and people with difficult circumstances in Laos and Cambodia.

The Steering Board will also set up a specialized squad on communications for the campaign. Provincial Youth Union will also brace up its affiliates, especially those from colleges and universities to establish propaganda squads, helping the campaign easily spread the whole community.

We will also attach special importance to setting up concentrated youth volunteer squads to serve the campaign. During the campaign, the Steering Board will mobilize all resources to create general strength in order to well organize the local youth movements.
