Stability in Tet market

Update: 13-01-2014 | 00:00:00

Light increase on prices in some items

In this time, price of kinds of cake and sugar-coated fruit is at VND80,000-130,000 per kg. Specifically, price of sugar-coated fruit only increases lightly about 5% compared with the previous year whilst price of cake is still stable.

At present, owing to weakness on purchasing power, small traders are cautious in importing goods. Ngoc Nga confectionery shop’s owner in Doan Tran Nghiep road, Phu Cuong ward, Thu Dau Mot city said “In this year, I import goods with the limited quantity. The total capital of importing goods is about VND100mil”.

According to many small traders, dried foodstuff is stable in quantity and price but price of some items of processed food increases lightly at VND500-2,000 per product.

Do Thi Minh, the owner of grocery in Bung market in Thuan An town said that price of several items such as paper cake, dried rice vermicelli jumps lightly in one recent week. specifically, Xuan Mai branded paper cake increases VND500 per pack, Saphaco noddle rises more VND1,000 per pack and sugar increases VND2,000 per kg and many more. Increase in price is originated from the rising demand on goods consumption on Tet holiday.

Across markets in Thu Dau Mot city, retail price of rice, glutinous rice increases more VND1,000-1,500 per kg. At present, price of Nang Huong Cho Dao and Taiwan fragrance rice is at VND18,000/kg whilst price of Hoa Cau and Kim Sen rice is at VND19,000-22,500/kg. Meanwhile, Thai glutinous rice is priced at VND23,000-24,000/kg.

Based on survey, price of green bean, mushroom and dried shrimp sky-rockets strongly at VND38,000/kg, 320,000/kg and 850,000/kg, respectively.

Overall, market price in this year will have no big changes like the previous years. The main reason lies in economic recession, making residents’ shopping reduce strongly.

Supermarkets pledge to offer goods adequately for customers

At big supermarkets in the province, aside from ensuring supply in commodities, supermarkets will participate in stabilizing the market price.

Until now, the number of commodities at supermarkets such as Big C, Vinatex, Co.opmart, Citimart, Metro and so on is very abundant and worth of about VND20bil. In addition, Big C Di An imports more than 20,000 items with the total value of about VND180bil.

Meanwhile, Binh Duong Trade and Tourism JSC invests VND15bil in importing commodities of beverage and confectionery.

Overall, goods in service for the upcoming Tet holiday is very plentiful, so suddenly price hike in the coming festival will maybe not happen.

The provincial department of Trade and Industry said that the unit in cooperation with relevant agencies and all level authorities has implemented inspections on price stability before, during and after Tet holiday 2014.

In addition, the department has steered the market management teams to closely inspect Tet goods selling, seriously solve unreasonably price hike and so on. In the other hand, businesses will hold market days across rural and remote areas such as Dau Tieng, Tan Uyen and industrial parks in a bid to cater for local residents and laborers’ Tet shopping.
