State President visits Lai Chau power plant

Update: 10-12-2012 | 00:00:00

President Truong Tan Sang inspected the construction of Lai Chau hydro-electric power plant project on December 8.

The 1,200MW plant has three turbine groups and is expected to generate power in 2016.

Nearly 5,000 consultants, engineers and workers are working hard to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

Notably, 80 percent of its workload is designed by domestic engineers, reducing import costs.

The investor and local administration have worked closely to speed up land acquisition and take care of displaced residents in the new resettlement areas.

President Sang praised the investor, contractors and local administration for their efforts to keep the project on the right track.

He underlined the importance of power projects, including Lai Chau, to national development, saying these projects will meet the country’s power demand for business production and domestic use, especially those living in remote areas.

He encouraged consultants, engineers, and workers to overcome difficulties and undertake initiatives to complete the project on time.
