Tree planting holiday held constantly

  The green trees will contribute to build Thu Dau Mot into a modern and environmentally friendly urban area.

In 2012, the province’s 14 agencies and units under 7 districts and townships hold tree-planting ceremonies on the anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s 122nd birthday and on the occasion of the New Year of the Rat 53 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh launched the first-ever Tree Planting Festival and called on people from all walks of life across the country to plant trees and forests.

The launch of this year's Tree Planting Festival is held at Kien An forest relic area in Dau Tieng district’s An Lap commune. Doan Van Trang, vice director of the provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the annual work of afforestation has been responded by local residents. The movement has been gradually socialized and focused on selecting kinds of high valued trees… As a result, the locality has minimized forest tree chopping, forest land encroachment and forest fire. The results have contributed to improve forest coverage and increase materials for production.

In the past year, the whole province planted more than 190,000 trees, 53,000 of which were grown by the State budget.

Especially, Nguyen Thanh Tai, chairman of Thu Dau Mot town People’s Committee said that implementing the town party committee’s Instruction 13 on planting trees at public and residential areas, the town People’s Committee has launched plans from now till 2015. Accordingly, the town will plant green trees across streets and parks with the quantity of 2,950 trees. Till 2015, the entire town will improve 6,200 green trees, additionally plant 180 valued trees and newly grow nearly 15,000 trees and ornamental trees and grass covers on the area of about 5,000sqm.

Nguyen Thanh Tai also said that the town-based tree planting festival has become an annual movement to build Thu Dau Mot into a modern, civilized, environmentally friendly urban area and raise local people’s awareness on planting and protecting green trees.
