They were assured of beautiful resting place cared by the Youth’s League members. The candles light up the Martyr Monument Walking around the cemetery, we were speechless to see an elder woman talking to her fallen son. Coming by the tomb of martyr Dang Ngoc Tung (born in 1959), we were received by sotto voce of Mrs. Cuc: “He died gloriously! I come here to visit him every time bringing the best foods and fruits of his favorite.” Cuc, born in 1939 in Da Nang, said that on July 25 every year, she should be here with him. Dang Ngoc Tung was the first son in a 9-child family of Cuc. He made all efforts to support his younger siblings through hardship/ in 1979, as many younger people at the time, he applied for Cambodian battle field at C12-D9-E16-F5. After a year, he was killed by the war (on September 5, 1980). Cuc recalled his time at home supporting his siblings and the shocking news of his death. As reported by Mr. Nguyen Tan Dat, a managing officer of Binh Duong Provincial Martyr Monument, over 5,300 placements were available at the site. Every year, on July 27 or April 30, the relatives of the martyrs should be overcrowded. Tribute of the younger generations In the evening, the Youth’s League members hand the candles to light up the cemetery. Do Khac Hieu, born in 1983, a BIDV officer of My Phuoc Branch talked about his third time attending the candle lighting ceremony to remember the fallen martyrs. He was proud to be a Vietnamese and gratitude to the fallen. Joining the footsteps of previous generations, volunteer youths have joined the army in a bid to protect the nation and their homeland. Many could not hold back their tears when visiting the Martyr Monument where some only at their 20s came to rest. They sacrificed their lives for the nation. The candle light lingered on to us as we were leaving the place. The light of tribute and gratitude is also determination of younger generations in Binh Duong Provice for a stronger and more developed province. Reported by Thien Ly – Translated by Vi Bao
