With a diplomatic guideline of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, and development and a foreign policy of openness, multilateralization, and diversification, the diplomatic sector has helped Vietnam maintain an environment of peace and stability for growth.
It has contributed to expanding Vietnam’s external economic relations. For the first time in 2 decades Vietnam achieved an export surplus from 2012 to 2014 and has become a standout in Southeast Asia in the attraction of foreign investment. More than 100 multinational groups have come to Vietnam.
French ambassador to Vietnam Jean Noel Poirier noted, “Vietnam is now clearly recognized as a pillar of peace in the region. Iwould even add that it’s not only a pillar of peace but it’s also a heaven of peace and stability in the region. And it’s not only the diplomats say so but when we asked our investors and our businessmen the reason why they come to Vietnam, they invest in Vietnam, they would tell you that peace and stability is one of the main driver, main reason for coming and investing in Vietnam”.
Continued contribution to communal peace, stability, and prosperity
In a time of global uncertainty and globalization with greater mutual dependence between countries, international integration has become indispensable. The diplomatic sector has worked hard to determine Vietnam’s strategic position in the region and the world in a way most beneficial to Vietnam.
The world community has acknowledged and praised Vietnam’s economic achievements, implementation of international commitments, foreign policy of peace, and efforts to maintain stability in the region in the context of rising maritime disputes in Asia-Pacific.
World Bank Country Director Victoria Kwakwa said, “Vietnam joined and participated actively in several regional cooperation initiatives. And it works effectively with others to achieve joint goals.Vietnam has maintained and enjoyed peace with its neighbors. And it’s currently using diplomacy to address emerging issues."
"Vietnam’s well-known diplomatic approach has allowed it to put the past bitterness of war aside and work with its neighbors, seeking friendly relations with all. This is the significant triumph of the country’s diplomacy,” she stressed.
With its strategically important geopolitical position in Asia-Pacific, Vietnam has many opportunities to complete its cause of modernization and industrialization. The 70-year-old diplomatic sector will continue to be the vanguard force in Vietnam’s comprehensive international integration.
