Efficiency of urban agriculture upheld

According to provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the whole province has so far had hundreds of stable urban agricultural facilities with the average income that is 15-20 times higher than the previous period with traditional farming ways.

There are now 78.7 hectares of urban farming land, accounting for around 80% of the province’s total farming land. The province’s farming land has till now reduced by nearly 20,000 hectares compared to 2010 and developed some hi-tech agricultural centers, namely An Thai hi-tech agricultural park with 411.75 hectares, Tien Hung hi-tech agricultural park with 89.95 hectares, the hi-tech milk cow park in Phu Giao district’s Tan Hiep and Phuoc Sang communes with 471 hectares. The whole province has also had a hi-tech concentrated animal husbandry area with 380,000 heads of cattle and 3.2 million heads of poultry…

To date, the province has implemented 4 hi-tech agricultural parks of 991 hectares with total investment of more than VND900billion. The province’s total agricultural production value has reached more than VND3.78trillion…

In the local strategy on urban agricultural development, the province has approved a Project on “Urban agricultural development in the southern region of Binh Duong for the period of 2016-2020” to foster more sustainable types and value chains based on hi-tech application. The objectives of the project are to boost agricultural restructuring towards diversifying urban agricultural models, combining traditional agricultural models with urban agricultural ones; generate safe products under VietGap standards, contributing to increasing the quality, effectiveness and safety of products.
