During the last Lunar New Year – Year of the Tiger in 2022, immigrant workers had meaningful moments of a new spring after going through a difficult epidemic time. No matter where they celebrate Tet, as long as their heart is always warm with the sharing and sympathy of family and society, the joy will be complete.

The joy of Tet away from home

 “I was sitting in the motel room thinking about spending money to buy a few things to prepare for the 3 days of Tet when the sound of the truck stopped in front of the accommodation. The tenant called me out to receive gifts. I was surprised to see a truck with the words "Spring drive - sharing love". At that time, I felt like my wish had come true as I received a gift bag of essentials from the local Youth’s Union and delivered it to my hands,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Gam, a working person in Phu My ward of Thu Dau Mot city.

The event was the program organized by Binh Duong provincial Youth’s League which has directed its grassroots in 9 districts, towns and cities to bring about a heart-warming Tet to immigrant workers after a hard time caused by COVID-19 epidemic.

Tet for immigrant workers is always present with home sickness as they could not return to reunite with their families. The program of "Tet rice tray on Tet holiday" organized by the Youth’s League at all levels helped them to be more excited in the first days of the New Year. In the program of "Lunar New Year's Day" at An Binh ward in Di An city, young workers are involved in cooking warm rice trays filled with spring atmosphere at the hostel. To make spring more joyful, An Binh ward Youth’s League organized a contest of "Singing Young Workers in 2022" and a lucky draw with the theme of "Spring together, New Year's union members" helped immigrant workers to feel a friendliness and peace of mind during Tet away from home.

Activities of the Youth’s League at all levels to take care of the Tet holiday for immigrant workers are widely held in the joy and excitement of spring coming to the youth workers' unions. Joining the spreading joy, Tan Binh ward in Di An city also organized "New Year's meal - sharing love" and presented gifts including rice, cooking oil, seasoning powder, and banh tet to the disadvantaged workers at the Youth Union of Workers Nguyen Thi Dan at Tan Thang neighborhood. Mr. Tran Van Thao, Secretary of Tan Binh ward Union, said: "The work of taking care of, supporting and accompanying young workers is always an important task that the Youth Union - the ward Association cares about implementation organization. Thereby, a part of the accommodating workers feel secure to live, work and stay with the locality.”

Greater hopes for a new year

After the Lunar New Year, immigrant workers   continue working and making a living. Although they do not return to their hometown to celebrate Tet with their family and still have the difficulties of living away from home, they are always looking forward. That is the spirit of non-stop work, hope and faith more in Binh Duong land in the state of "new normal".

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, a worker staying in Thuan Giao ward of Thuan An city, expressed: “The epidemic in Binh Duong has been controlled and the situation of life and economy has continued to develop. That made me very excited. Therefore, even though I did not return to my hometown during the New Year holidays, I felt very happy when I went back to work to settle down. I also hope that the province will continue to maintain its achievements in COVID-19 prevention and control so that all workers can work safely to earn and to help them lead a better life."

The pace of life in Binh Duong in the "new normal" will create many opportunities for immigrant workers to have jobs. The support of the province and the companionship of organizations and benefactors towards the disadvantaged immigrant workers has brought a heartwarming Tet to the workers, helping them to feel that they are not left behind after the hustle and bustle of life.

Ms. Tran Thi Ba, a native of Vinh Long, staying in Binh An ward in Di An city, said: "In the new year, I want nothing more than to stay healthy in the context of the ongoing complicated epidemic situation. Hopefully, the province will continue to ensure good COVID-19 epidemic prevention for socio-economic development, and help immigrant workers feel secure to work, and improve their lives."

During the 2022 Lunar New Year, the provincial Youth’s League gave 2,451 gifts worth VND 500,000 each from the provincial People's Committee to project officials, branch leaders, branch secretaries, leaders of clubs, teams and groups of youth workers; over 100 bulletin boards of young workers to branches in the province and 2,530 gifts have been given out to support young workers returning to their hometown to celebrate Tet. Along with that, the provincial Youth;s League also awarded more than 270 air tickets, train tickets, and bus tickets in the program of "Bringing Tet home" and the program of "Tet together in one house" for young workers with achievements is working in companies, factories, and enterprises in the province; at the same time, 20 gifts were given to students and children with extremely difficult circumstances in Thuan An city. The provincial Youth’s League also supported 6 young workers with difficult circumstances and gave gratitude to 34 typical hostel owners who made contributions in supporting and taking care of the lives of young workers facing difficulties due to the influence on the youth by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the provincial Youth’s League also donated 200 barrels of water and 2,500 gifts and localities gave more than 3,000 gifts to workers returning home to celebrate Tet.
