Along with the local socio-economic achievements, Phu Giao district’s Red Cross Society over time gained positive results, contributing to taking care of the lives of the local people. Over the past five years, the district’s Red Cross Society actively realized the “Tet for the Poor” program, the “paying debt of gratitude” movement; built and upgraded compassion houses; supported and granted scholarships for poor-but-excellent pupils; responded to the campaign “each organization and each individual helps one humanitarian address”; provided free medical check-ups and medicine for needy patients; set up 36 volunteer youth squads, 20 volunteers’ clubs, 12 volunteer blood donation squads, 12 squads against disasters…
The district’s Red Cross Society also offered help to 40,000 needy people with more than VND11.5bln; mobilized more than VND716mln in cash and gifts for 5,892 needy people via the “Tet for the poor, disable people and Agent Orange victims” program. Under the “mutual assistance” movement, the society gave support to 10,988 needy people with more than VND1.6bln; mobilized organizations and individuals to build and donate 29 charity houses worth more than VND470mln to 29 poor households; presented 508 gifts to privileged families and Vietnamese heroic mothers…
Such these apart, the district’s Red Cross Society awarded over 5,500 scholarships worth nearly VND600mln to poor-but-excellent pupils; mobilized organizations and individuals to provide over VND138mln for flood victims across the country; mobilized the local residents to donate 1,550 units of blood valued at VND403mln; gave financial support of more than VND296mln to more than 2,000 people through the “each organization, each individuals helps one humanitarian address” campaign…
The district’s Red Cross Society has just cooperated with the People’s Committee of Vinh Hoa commune to hand over a charity house to Le Thi Giau, a poor resident in Vinh Hoa commune’s Le Trang hamlet (photo). The 32sq.m houses has a total cost of VND22mln, funded by Catholic priest Nguyen Van Rien of Kinh Nhuong parish, who is head of the Volunteers’ Club under the district’s Red Cross Society. This is also the 7th charity house mobilized for construction by the local Red Cross Society this year.
All the charity programs launched by the district received strong response from the local people. The positive results from these programs also contributed to the common development of the district over the past years.
