Leverage to help women overcome difficulties

Tran Thi Lua (Dong An neighborhood, Tan Dong Hiep ward, Di An city) used to work very hard to buy and sell wasted materials. As a poor household, she was supported by Women's Union in her ward to borrow a loan. After that, she continued to get a second loan to open a cosmetic shop 10 years ago. Overcoming many difficulties, Lua has succeeded and become a typical woman in starting a business.

Lua shared that when she first started her business, she also faced many difficulties. However, she herself tried to improve her knowledge of cosmetics, beauty, product sales, and promotion skills. With constant efforts, after a time, she opened her first cosmetic shop.

Lua continued to learn and improve her skills. Then she was supported by Women's Union of Tan Dong Hiep Ward to continue to borrow a loan from Social Policy Bank to open more shops. Up to now, she has developed and expanded a retail system with 40 establishments and about 100 sales staff, guarantees the distribution of genuine cosmetics to consumers with nearly 5,000 cosmetic items from affordable to high-end items.

Unlike Lua, Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh in Bau Cam hamlet, An Long commune, Phu Giao district is pathetic. Divorced from her husband for more than 10 years, now she is a single woman, raising her children alone. The children are her motivation for getting rich by her own hard work. Exploiting the potential and advantages of the district, Linh purchased rubber latex. However, this business requires a high initial investment. Thanks to the support of Women's Union and local authorities, Linh boldly borrowed a loan to invest in a business of latex collection. Fortune smiled on her, her business operated quite effectively. Therefore, the borrowed loan was paid off. The business acumen and the support of Women's Union are the keys to Linh's success.

Linh said: “In 2018, when the latex buying business was still operating effectively, I realize that building swiftlet houses to harvest bird's nests is developing. Thus, I continued to invest in a bird's nest house on my own land. Since 2020, my bird's nest house has started to give yield regularly." At the beginning, she sold raw bird’s nest to dealers. In 2021, Linh officially became a wholesaler and retailer of all kinds of raw and processed bird’s nest. Currently, total income from latex and bird’s nest is about VND55-60 million per month.
