Collecting, recycling milk cartons
In the 2023-2024 school year, provincial Youth Union has coordinated with provincial Department of Education and Training to implement a plan to classify, collect and recycle milk cartons at preschools, primary and secondary schools. Thu Dau Mot city’s Young Pioneer Organization (YPO) has launched this movement to all the local YPO branches. Possibly speaking, the program of classifying, collecting and recycling milk cartons is a new program in this school year, promising to create many good effects in environmental protection, raising YPO members and pupils’ awareness of environmental protection.
Phu Tho primary school awards the "Green Corridor" work to the YPO branches
According to statistics, in the 2022-2023 school year, the whole province has about 527,100 students from kindergarten to high school levels. If on average, every student drinks 1 to 2 cartons of milk per day, there will be more than 1 million milk cartons released into the environment, equivalent to about 1 ton of waste released into the environment. Therefore, properly collecting milk cartons is one of the most practical tasks, contributing to protecting clean spaces at schools, making the learning environment cleaner and more beautiful. This has also helped improve their awareness of environmental protection.
The YPO branch of Phu Tho primary school in Thu Dau Mot city is one of the typical units in carrying out a campaign to collect milk cartons. Accordingly, during afternoon recess, students together participated in the activity of collecting milk cartons as instructed by teachers. The amount of milk cartons collected from the school’s classes will be transferred to the plant for processing.
Nguyen Manh Cuong, Head of Phu Tho Primary School’s YPO branch: "This activity not only contributes to educating and raising students and people’s awareness of environmental protection in daily life, thereby also reducing the amount of waste into the environment; utilizing raw materials, turning waste into useful items, reducing waste treatment costs. The highest goal of the program does not stop at collecting, sorting and recycling milk cartons at schools, but also develops the habit of collecting, sorting and recycling discarded materials to be reused at home, thereby spreading awareness of environmental protection among students parents, joining hands in implementing this task”.
