Lighting dreams for unlucky children

Over the past 10 years, numerous unlucky children have enjoyed literacy at charity classes in Tran Quoc Toan high school in Thuan An district’s Lai Thieu township. Despite difficulties of life, young people and workers still patiently lighten dreams for unlucky children.

Lai Thieu township has many charity classes helping street children be literate. Pham Thi Yen Nhi, 10, a 2nd grader of charity class at Tran Quoc Toan high school, revealed “My family is too poor to send me to school. Thanks to volunteers’ assistance, I’m able to be literate. I’ll try my best to reach good academic results and to be a teacher in the future to help other poor children”. Meanwhile, Dang Van Tuan, 17, a main bread-winner in his family, said “I can not afford to go to school, so I come the charity class to likely be literate”.

Nguyen Thi Hieu, the mother of Tranh Manh Tuan, 6, a disabled kid, said owing to be paralysed in one arm, no school receives her son, so she must send him to the charity class.

Overcoming obstacles

Many learners of the charity classes must study amid hungry, owing to poverty. Sometimes, volunteers of the charity classes spend their money to buy bread or milk for the unlucky young learners.

Ngo Tien Dat, vice secretary of Thuan An district Youth Union, said over the past 10 years, the charity classes in Lai Thieu township have become a destination of countless poor children. This is a significant program young people have contributed to help the unlucky kids.

The highlighted thing at the charity classes is that there are numerous youngsters coming and giving their help. At present, nearly 15 volunteers who are students of Thu Dau Mot University or are workers of local companies. They have studied or worked at day and lightened dreams for poor kids at night.

Nguyen Hoang Hai, a student of the HCMC Technology University, said his family is very poor, so he both helps his parents and managed to go to school. At night, he comes to the charity classes to help needy children.

Hearts for children

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc, vice chairwoman of Lai Thieu township People’s Committee concerned “despite busy work, volunteers try their best to help needy kids. At present, the volunteers have yet to enjoy any support, they come to unlucky kids by their heart”.

Moreover, the charity classes’ learners still face shortage of learning aids and difficulty of life. Therefore, authority and donors should lend a helping hand to help the unlucky children overcome obstacles.
