March 27, in Binh Duong, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs held a ceremony to launch the 5th Labor Inspection campaign to promote legal compliance for sustainable development of the wood processing industry. The campaign was implemented in 63 provinces and cities nationwide, with the focus being concentrated in three key localities, namely Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Dong Nai.

Currently, there are about 4,500 wood and forest product processing enterprises in the country, with about 500,000 laborers, of which laborers are trained and working stably, accounting for 55-60%, the rest is seasonal laborers. Particularly in Binh Duong, there are about 1,215 wood processing enterprises, including 905 domestic enterprises and 310 foreign enterprises. In 2018, wood processing in the province has an export turnover accounting for 40% of the total export turnover of wood industry nationwide.

Through inspections, many wood processing enterprises still violate labor laws, such as overtime hours exceeding the prescribed time; violating regulations on occupational safety and hygiene; The dangerous and toxic elements have not been strictly checked to have preventive measures such as dust, noise, and equipment that do not protect the safety and lead to occupational diseases for workers.

This campaign will focus on key activities, such as: Communication; inspect; instruction on improving compliance and training; monitor and handle non-compliance issues after inspection and assessment and review activities etc., thereby contributing to achieving the Government's goal of developing a sustainable and effective export of wood and forest products processing industry. fruit, modern on the basis of deep integration into international and regional markets; At the same time, building a safe working environment for workers.
