A workshop on population and family planning activities was just held by General Office for Population and Family Planning (GOPFP). On the agenda at the workshop were issues of improving propaganda agents and coordinators as well as new approaches.
Population and Family Planning activities in Binh Duong were variously launched in conferences, contests, and training courses through involved departments and unions.
Ms. Tran Thi Muoi Bay – Head of Family-Society Division of Provincial Women Association, said that activities on population have been attached to general social movements including emulation movements. For best results, 20 clubs of developing population were established with over 550 members in cooperation with population and family planning divisions. However, propaganda faces great difficulties in rural areas.
Despite good results, types of propaganda were not very persuasive due to monotonous activities.
Discussing this issue, Physician Van Quang Tan, Vice Director of Health Department, said that population and family planning have been promoted but in old approaches using only leaflets and direct meeting. As a result, he called for reforms of population and family planning activities.
Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thi Duc Chinh – Deputy Head of provincial Labor Union, claimed difficulties in communication with workers due to lack of staffs. She also noted that abortion ration of workers is relatively high while malnutrition of children under 5 is still a problem.
Physician Bao Thi Thanh Loan from province’s Reproductive Healthcare Center shared that workers usually have to time to participate in movements. Therefore, the center has tried to contact employers for direct propaganda. However, the scale of such movement is relatively low.
Talking about this problem, Physician Van Quang Tan suggested that propaganda should be reformed.
