Nguyen Xuan Phuc elected new Prime Minister

On April 7, lawmakers approved a resolution on electing Mr Nguyen Xuan Phuc new government leader through secret ballot.

Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc is the only candidate nominated for the PM position to replace PM Nguyen Tan Dung who was relieved from his post on April 6.

Head of the Vote Counting Board Huynh Van Ti said with the support of 446 or 90.28% of the total NA deputies, the new PM position was assigned to Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc was born in 1954

Academic degree: Bachelor of economics

Mr Nguyen Xuan Phuc held various positions: Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the provincial Quang Nam People's Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Quang Nam Party Committee, Deputy Chief Government Inspector, Permanent Vice Chairman, Minister - Chairman of the Government Office, Deputy Prime Minister for the 2011-2016 term.

- Member of the Political Bureau in the 11th and 12th tenures

- National Assembly deputy in the 11th and 13th tenures

As planned, the PM will summit a proposal to the NA on the dismissal and appointment of some Deputy PMs, ministers and other cabinet members on April 8-9.
