A story of paralyzed teacher Nguyen Ngoc Ky has set inspirational example for students. Teacher Ky suffered a severe illness as a child and lost the use of his arms at the age of four. Undeterred, he was determined to become a good student and taught himself to write with his feet. For his tenacious spirit, Nguyen Ngoc Ky received medals of honor and the title of “Meritorious Teacher”.

Writer, elite teacher Nguyen Ngoc Ky and talented underprivileged students attend the “Lighting up dreams of Binh Duong children” program.

Teacher Ky was born in 1947 in the northern province of Nam Dinh. After graduating from the faculty of philology at Hanoi General University in 1970, he returned home to teach and moved to Ho Chi Minh City in 1994. Aside from being an elite teacher, he is a writer and psychologist. In 2005, he was awarded the title of “Vietnam’s first teacher writes with his feet” by Vietnam Record Book Center.

From story of teacher Ky, we met Nguyen Huynh Ngoc Phuong, a 6th grader of Binh An secondary school in Di An town. Born in an unlucky circumstance, Phuong lost her parents when she was one month old. She has lived on her grandmother’s income from vegetable selling. Despite diversity, Phuong is still a good pupil.

To spread the program, Le Van Hoang, vice secretary of Di An town party committee wished “Di An town children should excel Uncle Ho’s teachings and become good students and dutiful children”. In addition, he urged authorities at all levels and people to join hand to help and pay attention to children.
