Overcoming difficulties

On the first days of establishment, the local material facility and technical infrastructure remained shortcomings. Road traffic system was downgraded heavily while agricultural economy was undeveloped and local people’s living standard remained very low. However, with effort and determination, the local leaders made greater efforts to seek out measures to take Phu Giao develop on internal force and potential. As such, after 15 years of development, Phu Giao district now really rises to new height.

Vo Van Ba, vice secretary of Phu Giao district party committee cum chairman of Phu Giao district People’s Committee said right in the first term, Phu Giao district party committee focused on steering the district People’s Committee to implement some measures in a bid to take local economy and people’s life develop stronger. Especially, the local party committee concentrated on implementing overall planning on socio-economy for the period of 2000-2015 and Phuoc Vinh urban planning.

With hi-unity and high determination of the local party committee, authority and people, measures and tasks are annually concretized scientifically to invest properly for development.

Therefore, after 15 years, Phu Giao district reaches gigantic results on all areas, basically meeting the provincial common requirement of development.

Sparkling achievements

According to Vo Van Ba, achievements of Phu Giao district lie in perfection of systems of electricity, school, medical station, meeting local requirement of development. Of these, system of health care, education is invested on the national standards while local traffic system is invested on BOT form. Notably, the locality invested in building 2 bridges linking An Linh and An Long communes, Tam Lap and Tan Dinh communes. The local infrastructure structure of socio-economy is built synchronously, giving priorities to traffic, urban, education, healthcare works for the sake of local residents.

Phu Giao’s educational cause shows a strong development, synchronously invested from pre-school level to high school level. Until now, the entire district has 15 pre-schools, 15 primary schools, 8 secondary schools and 3 high schools, 1 continuing education center. 27 out of 36 schools are recognized as the national standard schools, 100% of communes and townships reach standards of educational universalization. The local quality of education is increased with 99.9% of rate of pupils completing primary level, 95.5% of secondary school level and more than 98% of high school level.

In order to satisfy local inhabitants’ demand on livelihood and production, electricity network is covered across quarters, hamlets and proportion of households using electricity wins more than 98.02%. The local network of rural traffic is upgraded, expanded, facilitating local people’s advantages of traveling and goods transport.

Meanwhile, the work of gratitude repayment and social welfare is paid much attention by local authorities. Over the past 15 years, Phu Giao district builds and grants 343 gratitude houses, 896 hi-unity and charity ones to privileged and poor people as well as offers subsidies to thousands of needy people, contributing to improve local residents’ life, increasing rate of well-off households and declining rate of poor families.

Rural area changed

With the right instruction of agricultural, rural and farmer development, especially after 3 years of implementing the national goal program of new rural building, Phu Giao district’s image of rural area is changed positively.

Khong Van Cuong, chairman of Tan Long commune People’s Committee said that compared with the first days of establishment, material facility in service for local development shows big changes. As for Tan Long commune, the communal rural image will continue to be changed strongly in the coming time because the commune has spurred the program of new rural building.

In the past, average income of Tan Long commune’s people was less VND5mil per capita per year in the first years of establishment but now the figure increased six-fold with VND30mil per year.

Tran Ngoc Hai, a resident in hamlet 3, Tan Long commune said “I’ve lived in the commune since 1975, so I witness changes of the land. I am very excited to see local people’s positive changes of life. We are very happy to see local authorities’ thorough care of electricity, road, school and medical station network. With the investment, local residents’ life will be surely improved in the years to come”.
