Sales promotion increases in 2014

According to provincial Department of Trade and Industry, up to now, the number of businesses registering for sales promotion in the end of the year increased by 65% compared to the same period; promotional values also soared. With a wide range of sales promotion programs from businesses, consumers in the province have many chances to do the shopping at the year’s end.

Numerous sales promotion programs

On these days, we can find easily sales promotion in provincial shopping centers, such as: Becamex, Aeon Mall, Lotte, Bic C, Nguyen Kim etc. According to the Department of Trade and Industry, since beginning of the year, provincial businesses have registered to implement nearly 9,000 promotion programs of sales discount, gift offering, lottery winning with total value of more than VND4.5bln, which was almost double compared to the same period in 2013. The number of promotion programs is increasing rapidly in the year’s end.

According to the Department of Trade and Industry, most businesses consider this as their strategy to promote sales, stimulate consumption, and popularize their brand names.

One type of goods being most promoted in 2014 was electronic appliances, TV, refrigerator, karaoke machine. Therefore, most businesses are implementing many big promotions on this occasion. Popular discounts are 35-50% off for electronic appliances. For example, Trung Thao and Thanh Loc Center in TDM City have 20% of their items being discounted at this rate in order to increase sales at the year’s end.

Consumers have benefited from these programs. According to Ms. Huynh Thi Xuan Yen in Chanh My ward, TDM City, consumers are really interested in sales promotion. A representative of Trung Thao Center said, the center applies promotion programs quarterly, monthly, and target on demands of the quarter. At the end of the year, the center is applying sales promotion to give consumers better shopping opportunities. 

Clothing is also on big sales promotion. This is an interesting type of good to consumers on occasion of Tet holidays. Promotional clothing is diverse. However, apart from prestigious names, there are still some businesses are taking advantage of this occasion to sell goods of unknown origin.

Strengthening market control 

According to provincial Market Control Branch’s Head Truong Nhat Nam, in the end of the year, in addition to strengthening inspection on counterfeit, substandard, expired goods, provincial Department of Trade and Industry is overseeing promotional goods to ensure the interests of consumers.

Besides marketing objectives, market expansion, many companies are taking advantage of the holiday shopping season to liquidate inventories. This is reasonable and consistent with market rules. Nevertheless, consumers should choose good brands, prestigious shopping places to be able to get the best holiday shopping opportunities.
