On July 20, Sapper Brigade 550 under the 4th Army Corps in Thuan An town celebrated its 40th founding anniversary (July 20, 1974-2014) and received the first class National Protection Order. Sapper Brigade 550 was found on July 20, 1974 at the Southeastern battlefield with the purpose of ensuring sapper mission for the 4th Army Corps in the anti-US resistance war and protecting the country’s Southwestern border area as well as implementing the international mission at Cambodia. Over the past ten years, the Brigade involves in the mine-clearing work to destroy leftover mines, clearing more than 6,000ha of land, contributing to turn dead land areas into cultivation farms or residential areas. In addition, the unit takes part in making nearly 20km of roads along borders. At present, the Brigade has focused on raising general competition capacity, improving knowledge of combat strength. With such efforts, the Brigade was honored as the People’s Armed Force Hero by the Party, State and granted many other ranking awards. And, the most recent time the unit was donated the first class National Protection Order.
