Covid-19 patient treatment ready

At the recent meeting of the provincial Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, Dr. Nguyen Hong Chuong, Director of Department of Health, said that currently the epidemic situation in the province is complicated. On the basis of considering the resources at the units, getting ready to meet urgent requirements in the collection and treatment of Covid-19 patients, Department of Health has directed the provincial General Hospital and Central  Thuan An city Medical Center to immediately deploy the Covid-19 patient treatment areas. In which, the provincial General Hospital is ready to prepare facilities with a scale of 100 - 200 inpatient beds; Thuan An Medical Center is ready with a scale of 100 - 200 inpatient beds suitable to the needs of patients. Department of Health also requested the provincial General Hospital and the Medical Center of Thuan An city to deploy these treatment areas before June 25.

In addition to directing the above two units to deploy the treatment areas, Department of Health has also proactively issued a decision to establish an Executive Board to treat Covid-19 patients of the provincial health sector. On that basis, the Head of the Executive Board is the Deputy Director of Department of Health; the two Deputy Heads are the Director of the provincial General Hospital and the provincial Military Command; the two members are the Director of Medical Center of Thuan An city and Deputy Director of Ben Cat town Medical Center along with a secretary. The Executive Board is responsible for directing medical examination and treatment facilities to develop a plan to implement the province's Covid-19 patient treatment channel and route of direct medical examination and treatment establishments to develop cost estimates for equipment, supplies, chemicals, and hospital beds when necessary according to the regulations; human resources are mobilized to serve the work when necessary.

Previously, the provincial Department of Health also sent a written request to the units under the department to implement and use the VFS-410 invasive ventilator of Vingroup Corporation - JSC  given to the Ministry of Health.  The Ministry of Health allocated 24 ventilators to Binh Duong and handed over medical equipment to local medical units. Specifically, the provincial General Hospital has 8 ventilators and 2 ventilators for each of 8 districts, towns and cities.

Covid-19 patient treatment competence enhanced

Specialist Doctor Huynh Thi Nguyet Phuong, Director of Thuan An city Medical Center, said that following the direction of the sector, up to this point, the city Health Center has ready the required facilities for 100 - 200 inpatient beds suitable for receiving and treating Covid-19 patients. Previously, when selected as the unit to receive and treat Covid-19 patients, the center would quickly consolidate its facilities to be equipped with ventilators, patient monitoring monitors, and wall oxygen system in hospital in a number of isolation wards for treatment, basically responding to treatment and supporting patients on ventilators. In addition, the center has also arranged dining, resting and living areas for staff, doctors, and medical staff in the hospital, ensuring one-way traffic and avoiding cross-infection. Currently, the center has received quarantine and treatment of patients infected with Covid-19.

In fact, Binh Duong has previousy actively improved its capacity to treat Covid-19 patients. The province has prepared human resources, ventilators, facilities and equipment for the field hospital and treatment options for Covid-19 patients with the maximum capacity of treating about 600 patients at the same time under the motto of ‘4 on the spot’.  The provincial health sector has developed a plan to collect and treat patients infected with Covid-19 at the provincial General Hospital.

Meanwhile, Medical Centers of districts, towns and cities (except Thu Dau Mot city, Bau Bang district, and Bac Tan Uyen district), each unit arranges treatment areas for patients with Covid-19 at the scale from 10 to 20 beds, ready according to the motto of "4 on the spot" to receive and treat local patients and mild cases to reduce pressure on the provincial General Hospital. The sector and private hospitals in the province, depending on the actual situation, would arrange from 5 to 20 beds to receive quarantine and treatment of Covid-19 patients when necessary. These units would receive treatment when the number of Covid-19 patients at medical centers exceeds 70%.

Speaking at a recent meeting with the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, Dr. Nguyen Hong Chuong said that the provincial General Hospital and Thuan An Medical Center are quarantining and treating 215 patients including 213 patients infected in the community and 1 case of positive from Khanh Hoa province and 1 specialist entering from the border. The patients are in stable condition. Among these patients, there are 1 elderly patient, born in 1948, and 3 patients under 5 years old. Due to the rapid increase in the number of patients, Department of Health is transferring the patients to quarantine and treatment at the field treatment areas at the TB - Psychiatry Ward of the provincial General Hospital. The health sector is asking the Ministry of National Defense to consider establishing the No.5 Field Hospital in Thu Dau Mot city when the number of patients exceeds the province's treatment capacity.
