Tan My pomelo exported

Update: 21-06-2019 | 11:59:35

Green-skin pomelo of Tan My cooperative (Tan My commune, North Tan Uyen district) has successfully exported to Singapore. This is the happiness and pride of all members of this cooperative in particular and of Tan My commune in general, as having brought a specialty of their hometown to foreign markets, contributing to bringing Vietnamese pomelo brand to more and more consumers in foreign markets.

A great happiness

In the early days of June, trees in Tan My pomelo orchards were laden with fruits and pomelo scent. Le Minh Sang, Director of Tan My Cooperative, said that he was very happy when its member's green-skin pomelo product had been exported to Singapore for the first time. The customer ordered 4 tons, but because they were very strict, during the first phase, the cooperative only exported 1.5 tons at the price of 70,000 VND/kg to explore the market. At the end of this June, the cooperative will continue to export the second batch of 2.5 tons to finish the order.

Green-skin pomelo is the first product ordered by International Supply Trading Service Company to export to Singapore. According to the company leader, Singaporean consumers have been buying pomelos from Malaysia for a long time. However, after surveying this market, the company found that customers in Singapore enjoyed green-skin pomelo, so decided to bring this product to this market, and was initially welcomed by consumers here.

Sharing with us about his cooperative’s direction, Mr. Sang said at the beginning of 2019, he represented Tan My Cooperative to attend a fair in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. On this occasion, he met and exchanged with leaders of International Supply Trading Services Company and introduced green-skin pomelo products of his cooperative. Then this company sent people to the cooperative 3 times, once a month, to check the technique and product quality, and take samples to Singapore twice for testing. After that, the company decided to place an order with Tan My Cooperative.

A mean for reaching further

Mr. Sang said that in the first phase, Tan My Cooperative provided pomelos to supermarket systems and must ensure beautiful products. After that, he learnt about planting techniques, ways of taking care of trees, and pruning bad fruits, keeping only fruits that meet customer requirements. However, so far, products that do not meet requirements and cannot been exported to supermarkets, have had many consuming sources; the cooperative signed with a company specializing in importing inferior products.

Currently, pomelo orchards of Tan My Cooperative are harvested all year round, in which more than 40 hectares bear fruits alternately, because members of the cooperative are able to adjust crops as well as fruit weight to meet current market demands.

Although green-skin pomelo product of Tan My Cooperative has exported the first batch to Singapore, this is the joy and pride of all cooperative members in particular and Tan My commune in general, because they brought a specialty of their hometown to foreign markets. More importantly, more international customers would know about Tan My pomelo. This is also a mean that paves the way for Tan My pomelo to be exported in the future.
