To promote fruit regional coding

Update: 25-07-2024 | 14:47:21

In recent times, the agricultural sector of Binh Duong province has actively guided and supported farmers, producers, and cooperatives in implementing cultivation conditions standards to be granted planting area codes. This has contributed to increasing the value of agricultural products, improving income for the people, and aiming for sustainable agricultural development.

Officials from the Plant Cultivation and Plant Protection Department of the province conducted an on-site inspection of the planting area at a farm within the province

Preliminary outcomes

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the establishment and issuance of planting area codes, packaging facilities play an important role in agricultural product exports. It is a mandatory requirement of markets and international practices to ensure compliance with the importing country's regulations on plant quarantine, food safety, and traceability. Currently, the planting area codes and packaging facilities that have been issued are still being used and effectively controlled. Thereby, it has contributed to enhancing the reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market and increasing export turnover, while also helping to guide farmers towards more professional production practices, in accordance with market standards and preferences, facilitating product traceability and transparency.

Currently, the convenient trade of goods between countries is a great opportunity for the export of Vietnamese fruits. However, the prerequisite for fruits to be "exported" is to be assigned a cultivation area code for origin traceability. The production of fruit trees in the province has undergone changes in cultivation area, production organization, and the application of scientific and technical advances. Up to now, Binh Duong has an area of over 8,850 hectares of fruit trees with diversity in species. However, there is still a lack of synchronization from production to consumption, with many potential risks. The main products are mainly consumed domestically, and the economic efficiency is not high yet. It is necessary to develop concentrated fruit production areas with sufficient commodity output for investment and brand building for each region.

Mrs. Luu Dinh Le Thuy, Head of the Planting and Plant Protection Sub-department of the province, said that in recent times, the sub-department has continuously promoted propaganda work and organized training classes in each concentrated fruit-growing area to help gardeners have a better understanding of the importance of building planting zone codes. Building crop area codes not only helps increase the value of many types of crops but also changes perception, farming practices, and shifts towards safe and sustainable production standards, shared Mrs. Luu Dinh Le Thuy.

To tighten management of cultivation regions

Besides the achievements, the construction and management of planting area codes currently face many difficulties, and people's awareness of this field still has certain limitations. The Planting and Plant Protection Division of the province advises farmers to understand and comply with the regulations to meet the requirements of importing countries.

For management agencies, it is necessary to regularly inspect and check the use of issued codes, detect and handle violations, repeated violations in particular, pay special attention to monitoring packaging facilities, and implement residual monitoring programs. On the other hand, it is necessary to regularly update the import requirements of markets, strengthen propaganda and training on plant quarantine regulations and food safety.

For cultivation areas, packaging facilities need to arrange personnel to implement control according to regulations, be responsible for applying technical measures and ensuring compliance with import requirements; at the same time, people in cultivation areas need to enhance the application of scientific and technological advances, mechanization to improve productivity and quality of agricultural products, and proactively comply with technical regulations on import codes.

In addition, the unit coordinates with local management agencies to monitor cultivation areas and packaging facilities in accordance with regulations; organizes technical training for producers in cultivation areas and workers in packaging facilities to understand the regulations and requirements regarding the cultivation area code and packaging facilities of importing countries. All planting areas and packaging facilities have been assigned export codes and must update information on the entire process of planting, caring, harvesting, packaging, and transporting products on the Farmdiary crop management software and packaging facility management software.

The entire province has been granted 30 plant protection codes for exporting to markets such as China, the United States, the EU, the UK, Russia, New Zealand. 16 packaging codes are also specifically for exporting bananas, jackfruit, and durian to the Chinese market. These codes mainly focus on crops such as bananas, mangosteen, durian, jackfruit, longan, and pomelo in the districts of Phu Giao, Bac Tan Uyen, Dau Tieng, Thuan An city, and Ben Cat city.
