Vietnamese students win top honours at US science fair

Four Vietnamese students have received top awards at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition.

Approximately 1,800 high school students from over 75 countries, regions, and territories were afforded the opportunity to showcase their independent research and compete for grand prizes of US$4 million at the annual competition held in the US.

Tran Thi Thu, a student from the central highlands province of Lam Dong, received top honours and cash prizes totalling US$6,500 in the programming category for projects involving Oracle and GoDaddy.

Pham Huy, an eleventh grade student at Quang Tri High School received a third-place award for a project creating a robotic arm for people with disabilities in the Robotics and Intelligent Machines category.

In addition, two students from the city of Hai Phong earned third place awards and prizes at the competition for their independent research projects involving the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence.
