Chanh My communal farmers focus on urban agriculture

Tong Thi Ngoc Nhan, chairwoman of Chanh My communal Farmers Society said that in the recent 6 years the commune’s agricultural land area has been narrowed, owing to development of projects of HUD eco-tourism project and Chanh My urban project. Therefore, the communal People’s Committee has encouraged local farmers to implement transfer on structure of species and plantings in conformity with urbanization, to spur technology and science application into production, especially bio-technology to improve capacity, quality and competition.

In addition, the local authority has taken of advantages of capital sources to support farmers’ loans. Since the start of this year, the entire commune has had 60 turns of farmer households enjoying a VND80ml preferential loan to build production models in line with urban agriculture trend

At present, the communal farmers have focused on growing clean vegetables. Nguyen Van Dung, vegetable grower in My Hao 1 hamlet, said “Earlier, my family had a 1,000sqm production land lot, specializing in planting lettuce. After the land lot was narrowed and receiving dissemination on glasshouse vegetable growing project, I decided to grow clean vegetables on an area of 200sqm. Planting vegetables in glasshouse helps me save time, labor and reach high efficiency”.

Aside from the glasshouse vegetable model, the local farmers have focused on growing vegetable sprouts, bringing high economic efficiency.

In addition, local farmers have concentrated on developing models of growing orchids, ornamental trees and breeding ornamental fishes, goats, etc. in reality, local farmer households have enjoyed a stable life, thanks to urban agriculture models and become good farmers in production and business.

Urban agriculture is the right way, contributing to excel program on new rural building at the locality.
