Dau Tieng taps strong points towards harmonious and sustainable development

Dau Tieng district has aimed at making harmonious development between rural and urban areas, combining agriculture with rapid industrial development. To achieve the set goals, the district has synchronously deployed many solutions and focused on implementation.

Investing in complete infrastructure

Coming to Dau Tieng, it is easy to see that the new-style rural district is developing rapidly and sustainably. The district has taken industrial development and trade-services as the main focus, agricultural development as its strength, focusing on public investment capital for completing traffic infrastructure and industrial compounds approved. In addition, the district has focused on administrative reform, improving the investment climate and removing enterprises ‘difficulties.

According to Nguyen Phuong Linh, Chairman of the district’s People's Committee, since early this year, the district has focused on directing sectors, communes and towns to implement a number of solutions to ensure the local economic and social development. In 2023, the district has continued focusing on investing in economic-technical and social infrastructure systems to better serve the needs of the people.

A number of key projects in the district have been accelerated for completion and operation. For projects implemented by the district’s Land Fund Development Center, the compensation, support and resettlement plan for 8 projects with an amount of more than VND 221.2 billion for 709 documents has been approved. For the projects implemented by the district’s Construction Investment Project Management Board, compensation for the project of upgrading and expanding 749A road at the section passing the center of Long Hoa commune has been paid nearly VND 337 billion for 773 households, or  96.6% of total. For the road project to Ong mountain information station, the figure was more than VND1.4 billion for 38 documents... In addition, rural traffic routes here have also got synchronous investment, helping the local rural appearance be more and more prosperous.

In 2023, the production activities of some enterprises have faced many difficulties. The prices of some agricultural products will drop, significantly affecting the lives of workers and farmers. However, with the efforts by the district and businesses in overcoming difficulties, the local industrial production value has continued increasing. In the first 9 months of 2023, 37 new enterprises were established with total capital of more than VND 37.4 billion. To call for investment in industrial and home industrial development, the district has further conducted surveys and created conditions for organizations and individuals to invest in production and business.

Local advantages upheld

In the economic development program for rural areas, the district has attached special importance to fostering agricultural and non-agricultural products and services that have advantages in each locality to create products with high added values and increase income for the local people. According to the district’s leaders, the development of the local key agricultural products has contributed to restructuring the local agricultural sector in association with home industry, services and rural tourism. Accordingly, the district has paid special attention to building a model to develop a number of agricultural products that meet OCOP standards from 3 stars and above.

In 2023, the district has conducted a survey and guided 7 communes and towns which do not have OCOP certified products to choose products to implement the OCOP program. Particularly, 3 products (avocado, wine, banana) have been recommended by Thanh An commune, 1 product (mangosteen) from  Thanh Tuyen commune, 1 product (green-skinned grapefruit) from Long Tan commune, 1 product (lingzhi mushroom) from Dinh Thanh commune, 2 products (black termite mushroom, cordyceps) from Dinh An commune, 1 product (pickled bamboo shoots) from Dinh Hiep commune. Currently, there are 7  recognized as OCOP products, namely Long Hoa commune's energy sticky rice wine, An Lap commune's netted muskymelon, Minh Thanh commune's green-skinned pomelo, Minh Thanh commune's king orange, sweet tangerine and Minh Hoa Phat cooperative's green-skinned pomelo in Minh Hoa commune, bird's nest of Minh Tan commune.

Tong Van Huong, Director of Minh Hoa Phat Cooperative said: "The cooperative produces green-skinned pomelo under the VietGAP process. In 2023, the product has been recognized as a 3-star OCOP, helping enhance its value and brand. Especially, members of the cooperative have boldly processed OCOP pomelo products into pomelo wine to help prolong their use time and adapt to the circular economy development trend."

Similarly, Minh Tan commune has successfully developed the bird's nest product of the Dau Tieng Bird's Nest Agricultural Trading Service Cooperative to meet OCOP 3-star standards. Pham Binh Long, Vice-Chairman of Minh Tan communal People's Committee said that the OCOP program has created conditions for developing the local typical traditional products, more effectively exploiting potential and strong points, meeting the needs of the market in the context of integration. Especially, OCOP products have significantly contributed to building new-style rural areas and promoting the local socio-economic development.

According to Dau Tieng district's draft report for the first 9 months of 2023, the district’s total production value was estimated at nearly VND 18 trillion, or 68.87% of the plan, up 13.4% over the same period. Of these, industrial and construction production value was over VND 9.25 trillion, or 70.56% of the plan, up 17% over the same period. Trade and service production value was over VND 5.53 trillion, or 70.29% of the plan, up 12.5% ​​over the same period. Agricultural production value was more than VND 3.11 trillion, or 62.24% of the plan, up 5.3% over the same period.
