Preparation work for 3-level election of People’s Council representatives in Binh Duong Province for the 2011-2016 tenure has been progressive in line with regulations and guidelines of the central government.

 Election organizations established

 Upon unanimous agreement with People’s Council Standing Committee and Provincial Committee for Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee, the Provincial People’s Committee has issued Decision No. 500/QD-UBND to establish a 29-member election committee which will be in charge of directing and organizing the election to come in the province.

As for district and commune levels, 7 of 7 districts have their own grassroots election committees with averagely 11 to 15 members. The committees have also established in 91 out of 91 communes, ward, and towns.

 The establishment of election committees has been rapidly done to keep up with the deadline of 60 days before election, i.e. the committees must be at least 60 days of old to help carrying out election in precincts.

 Voters and candidates are on increase

 Statistical value shows that by October 2010, the province’s population stands at 1,663,450 of which are 1.3 million voters which is higher than previous tenure of about 600,000 voters. And thus, it is expected that 3 ballot precincts will be set up across Ben Cat, Dau Tieng, Thu Dau Mot (Precinct 1), Tan Uyen, Phu Giao, Di An (Precinct 2), and Thuan An (Precinct 3).

As for candidates, it is expected that 8 candidates will be selected as delegates to National Assembly to represent about 1.6 million people or each delegate represents 200,000 people. As for People’s Council, 63 delegates will be selected and each will represent 26,000 people in Binh Duong Province.

The quantity of candidates will be approved in upcoming meetings through negotiation sessions.
