Fire safety measures of marketplaces enhanced at year end

The end of the year is the time when people often focus on markets, supermarkets, and commercial centers to shop and have fun, so fire safety in these places need to be paid due attention.

In Thuan An city, there are currently 14 grade 2 marketplaces, 34 third-grade markets, hundreds of spontaneous markets and 3 commercial centers and supermarkets in operation. These places are for exchanges and trade of goods of many shoppers, so the fire safety needs to be a top priority especially in terms of equipment and firefighting systems.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Bui Trung Hieu - Deputy Police Chief of Thuan An City, in 2022, no fire or explosion incidents are reported in the area of Thuan An city. Most of the causes of fires in markets and supermarkets are by electrical system failures and the use of electrical consuming equipment that does not ensure fire safety. In addition to the lack of awareness and knowledge of fire prevention and fighting among people and business, it is worth mentioning that the management board of markets and trade centers is not fully aware of their responsibilities for fire prevention or lack of attention, neglect or disregard for fire prevention and fighting. In response to the requirements of ensuring fire safety for markets, supermarkets, and commercial centers, and following the direction of the Ministry of Public Security, and the Director of the provincial Police Department, the Police Department of Thuan An city has developed a plan to carry out propaganda and safety inspection on fire prevention and fighting and rescue in the locality.

During the peak implementation, Thuan An city Police coordinated with the People's Committees of communes and wards to organize 100% inspection of markets, commercial centers and supermarkets, which issued a decision to temporarily suspend operations. Acting and advising the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee to issue a decision on sanctioning administrative violations in the field of fire prevention and fighting and rescue for a market in the city. Major Le Huu Tai - Deputy Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Division of the provincial Police, said: “The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Division has advised the Party Committee and the Board of Directors to promulgate a plan to direct the forces and to strengthen the work of fire prevention and fighting and rescue, focusing on promoting propaganda on fire prevention and fighting in many forms, strengthening guidance and inspection, focusing on markets, commercial centers and places where entertainment activities are held,  regularly organizing training for on-site fire prevention and fighting forces of agencies and enterprises to improve their ability to handle fire and explosion situations. In addition, for each specific event, we have a plan to arrange forces and means to ensure fire safety, rescue, and protect people's safety during spring and Tet holiday.”
