People in Di An town have become familiar with image of motorbike-taxi drivers or memorized hot line of the team. The team’s members immediately arrive at scene of accidents to implement first aid for victims and take them to hospital, despite bad weather and inconvenient time.

Nguyen Van Thanh, head of Tan Dong Hiep ward’s first aid motorcycle team, said “The team’s members have appeared across the ward to help victims anytime”. Thanh has been a motorbike-taxi driver for many years. When Di An town Red Cross Society urged to set up the first motorbike teams, he was one of the first volunteer people. At present, the ward first aid motorbike team has lured 25 members.

The team members work from 4 am to 11 pm and are ready to arrive at scene of accidents to help victims anytime. After enjoying assistance from the team members, many victims come back to express their gratitude by granting gifts but the members determinately do not receive. “We help every one by heart and charity”, Thanh affirmed.

Le Van Anh, the youngest member of Tan Dong Hiep ward first aid motorbike team said “After an appeal from Thanh, I join positively in the team”. At present, Anh has lived in a small boarding room.

Professional cards

It is not easy to set up and maintain operation of the team. Tu Anh Tuan said that it is difficult for us to mobilize motorbike taxi drivers to join in the team because most of them have encountered a very difficult living. Many members were used to face problems after helping victims. Therefore, to help the members enjoy advantages in first aid, Di An town Red Cross society in cooperation with the town hospital’s directorate grants professional cards for the team members.

Tu Anh Tuan added that each group is equipped a first aid bag with necessary tools. The first aid motorbike team’s members are mainly motorbike taxi drivers. Despite difficult living standard, they have helped victims by their whole heart.

Di An town first aid motorbike team has just marked its 10th founding anniversary. The entire town has so far had 7 first aid motorbike teams with 13 groups of 147 members. Thanks to the charity hearts, more than 2,000 people escaped death and hundreds of cases enjoyed timely first aids.
