On recognizing that the supplies of garden-rearing chicken and eggs are still lack and irregular, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Lan of Hoa Cuong hamlet in Minh Hoa commune of Dau Tieng district has, since 2016, implemented the model of local chicken rearing in her land, which has been developed into Le Nhat Farm.
The sustained start-up
Graduated from university with a major in office administration, Ms. Lan nurtured her desire to do business in the locality. She learned about local advantages and was determined to implement it by boldly organizing production and exploiting the family's garden area to start a business. Holding a family capital of VND 250 million, Lan built a barn on an area of more than 1,200 square meters. At the beginning of the implementation, she raised 700 chicks surrounded by wire mesh and a cool barn. Applying the newly acquired knowledge, in the chicken area Lan also uses biological padding to design the coops with light and moisture suitable for each stage of development of the chicks and when the adult chicken are released into the rearing garden.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan successfully started a business with a livestock model
In the early years of starting to raise chickens and due to lack of capital and lack of experience in raising chicken, half of the chicken were infected and died. Undeterred by the accident and in addition to the learned knowledge from websites, books, and newspapers, Lan also actively inquired from relatives and households with experience in raising chickens and at the same time participated in training courses organized by the local Association of Farmers; thereby, taking care of the chicken more effectively. Ms. Lan said: "Besides my main food source of sprout rice and maize, I also focus on other natural food sources such as insects, vegetables, and plants to provide more nutrients. In the process of raising, I always follow the breeding techniques, and regularly clean the barn to limit the occurrence of diseases while keeping the herd fully vaccinated along with monitor and record of the growth of chicken. Therefore, the chicken grow quickly with fewer diseases to produce firm meat with ensured quality, creating a source of free-range chicken for meat to meet the abundant market demands.
Facilitating the commune Youth’s League to participate in livestock training courses and visit economic development models in other localities, in 2021 Ms. Lan borrowed from the district Bank for Social Policies to buy more breed and renovate two home gardens and expand breeding and cultivation areas aiming for developing a model of clean broiler chicken without the use of banned or lean substances.
Le Nhat Farm not only raises chicken but also raises wild boars, Siamese ducks and provides clean eggs and breeding. Currently, Lan's farm is stable with about 3,000 chicken for meat and 1,500 chicken from 1 day to 1 month old. She also replicated 200 siamese ducks and 50 hybrid wild boars with the scale of 7 chicken farms, 1 pig farm, 1 Siamese duck farm for a total profit of VND 1 billion a year.
Le Nhat Farm is a different breeding model with many farms being 80% natural and disease prevention mainly from garlic wine mixed with food. Breeding hens, broiler chicken, and Siamese ducks raised in the wild feed on sprouts, corn, grass and insects. The main food of hybrid wild boar is from vegetables and water hyacinth. Ms. Lan said: “The rearing process is the continuous learning and discovery. Upholding the motto that prevention is better than cure, from the hatching stage the temperature and warmth must be monitored to ensure that the chicken hatch on the right day and are healthy. Food must be clean, not stale and moldy. Feeding and drinking troughs must be cleaned regularly. Barns are disinfected. The chicken’s sleeping, feeding area and playground are whitewashed to ensure that the chicken are always healthy."
Enthusiastic with social works
In the role of the president of the Youth Club doing good business in the commune and with the accumulated experience gained in the process of doing business, Ms. Lan is always ready to share and help aspiring youth union members and the idea of increasing production and developing the family economy. Besides, Lan has helped many young people get stable jobs on the farm. She also mobilized family members and people in the commune to develop household husbandry. With effective, quality and brand-building methods, Lan's chicken farm is providing breeding stock for livestock households and a source of clean food inside and outside the locality.
Not only did she actively participate in economic development, Lan also regularly participates in youth activities and local movements such as blood donation, contribution to the Fund for the Poor, general movements of building new countrysides, and others.
In the past time, Ms. Lan has been honored to receive many awards and titles from organizations at all levels such as the Certificate of Merit from the provincial Red Cross for blood donation, the title of "Typical Young Entrepreneur" at provincial level, Certificate of Merit from district union, commune Youth’s League in work and movements continuously over the years. In particular, in 2021, Ms. Lan was honored to receive the Luong Dinh Cua Award presented by the central Youth’s League.
