Giving a boost to Vietnam-India economic cooperation

 Indian businesses have showed their keen interest in investment cooperation with Vietnam in finance, banking and telecommunication technology. 

On October 13, State President Truong Tan Sang arrived in Mumbai- the capital of Maharashtra State - which is known as India’s large economic hub and attended the Vietnam-India business forum.

Addressing the forum, President Sang expressed his delight at the visit to Mumbai, saying that he hopes India, as well as Maharashtra State, will continue to gain still greater achievements in building the country into a modern and prosperous nation in the region and the world.

Mr Sang praised recent cooperation between some Vietnamese provinces and Maharashtra State in finance, trade, investment, science and technology, pharmaceuticals and human resource training.

He also called on businesses in Mumbai to intensify investments in Vietnam.

Vietnam and India have maintained the ties of a time-honoured friendship which was first founded by late President Ho Chi Minh and former Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Neru, and later fostered by many generations of leaders from both countries.

Over the past years, the two countries have cooperated closely and supported each other in the struggle for national independence and the process of national construction and development.

Vietnam’s consistent policy is to constantly consolidate and strengthen the ties of friendship and strategic partnership with India, including exchanges between localities, organizations, friendship organizations and citizens, Mr Sang said.

The same day, President Sang met with the Governor of Maharashtra State, K. Sankaranarayanan as part of the activities during his state-level visit to India.

The Maharashtra Governor appreciated Mr Sang’s visit to Mumbai which is also home to 19 large universities and is considered as one of India’s major educational centres.

Mumbai is willing to cooperate with Vietnam in its two strong areas of economics and education to further strengthen relations between the two countries, Mr Sankaranarayanan said.

In his speech at the Vietnam-India business forum in Mumbai, Mr Sankaranarayanan said coffee and rice exports - the areas of Vietnam’s strength - should be boosted. He also praised the country’s efforts in curbing inflation, ensuring social welfare, and promoting educational development, especially in foreign languages and the achievement of educational universalization.

Later in the day, Mr Sang and his entourage left Mumbai for their visit to Sri Lanka.
